I'm half Egyptian, and have lived in the US for all of my life. I genuinely love my heritage, and its history. Ancient Egyptian history is incredibly complex and interesting with multiple different groups of individuals and ethnicities that existed and mingled, and it is known that Cleopatra was half Macedonian/Greek because she was the daughter of Ptolemy XII Auletes. However, I can not say that I particularly like my history being rewritten by someone who has absolutely no association with anything to do with Egypt as a whole. Please do not re-write the history of others to better suit your narrative. They could have easily found an Egyptian actor, and the "Diversity" that they claim they want in movies and shows would be satisfied. However it isn't about inclusivity, or diversity anymore, this is quite literally stealing the heritage of others, and claiming it as your own falsely. This is THE definition of cultural appropriation, just rewriting the ANCIENT WRITTEN history of people literally 6000 miles across the world with absolutely no association with you. And when the show is successful, despite the fact that it is piggybacking off of a completely false narrative, Egypt gets nothing out of it. No one single Egyptian individual is able to tell the story of their own people. And when an Egyptian actor gets picked for a role of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh in "Night at the Museum" people literally bashed the creators for "whitewashing" when the actor (Rami Malek) himself the son of two Egyptian immigrants.

This is portrayed as a documentary so it can be extremely problematic. People might have less issue with the series if it was presented as a drama and a fictional story.

The part where Cleopatra ran to the top of the pyramid and screamed "IT'S CLEOPATRA'IN TIME" and Cleopatra'd all over Egypt was amazing. Truly one of the most documentaries of all time.

Is it weird that I learned way more about Cleopatra's heritage and history reading the comment section than checking out the "documentary"....
