Personally, if I can break away from Windows, I'm gonna try. Minecraft, Skype, Netflix, Google Play, Google Chrome, FireFox, LibreOffice, GoogleDrive with Insync, and now Steam works for Linux. Linux just needs iTunes and AMD Mantle to make me 100% happy. I'm hopeful that I won't need any iteration of Windows after Windows 7 when developers produce more games for Linux.

You can configure a regular windows 7 PC to boot right into Big Picture mode on startup and avoid all the Linux stuff. And its much easier to do than installing SteamOS just change a couple lines in registry and youre good to go!

No one seems to understand just how good Linux is nowadays, they only look at the past, and see linux for what it used to be, an overly complicated OS for average people. But many distibutions have come along since then that make Linux just as, if not more simple to use than Windows. Plus its free, and no dealing with the bullshit of a single greedy corporation like microsoft fucking you over, and telling you what you want. An open source OS on an open hardware platform that you can do whatever the hell you want with, nothing better than that. Linux games sell on par with Mac games on Steam already.

I think that its interesting to see how this goes later down the line. There's so many people complaining but they don't seem to realize that this is a fairly new os so you can't expect an instant library of over 1000 games. This is a free os and it has apparently better performance than windows so I can see it having some competition with other free os out there.

Why can't you just try to let it evolve? Remember that it is currently on Beta and wasn't really done for everyone to test out? They even state that on the download page... But no.. you must jump into conclusions...

For now, let the console/pc war alone and focus into the subject of the video, the Steam OS. It was developed to be a dedicated gaming operational system. That means, no background process that can interfere with the game performance, dedicated drivers to deliver a better performance, more optimized games, and so on.

I know Linux has some problems right now, but do you remember how the world was before we got Windows? I'm pretty sure most people complained about the changes. And look where we are now?

This shouldn't be said, as everyone should already know this. It is common sense... Let the world live! Let it change! You may find yourself amazed by the changes.

For anyone trying to do this: The USB installation only works on FAT32 USB drives. So any drive 32GB and under should work.

I ran into this problem and no one explained it to me, just trying to pass it on.

U can have way more then a handful if you just stick to windows version of steam or big picture. I would know I have over 1000 steam games.

LOL, the first Steam machine is already on the market, Alienware x51. On the Alienware website, the page which shows the feature shows Valve Cooperation at the bottom.

All these people complaining seem to forget that we're mainly PC players, we don't fear typing commands or find it complicated at all.
Also, Linux has never been too user friendly, and it's very veeeery far from failing as an OS.
The selling point here will be the performance, it's the only reason I'd install it.
