Shoe Styling Rules: Do's and Don'ts for styling loafers

Ciao everyone! This is part 2 of my styling loafers series! There were so many ways to style loafers that I had to make two videos to style loafers. This one is all about how to style loafers with skirts, trousers, and dresses - it is not a do's and don'ts for styling jeans and loafrs, but I do hope it gives you ideas for outfits with loafers and denim!

As a high school business teacher, I tried to model appropriate attire. Since I had to move around the room a lot (computers, etc) I really needed comfy shoes most days. Loafers were it for me. One of my favorite uniforms was a blazer, button up or light sweater, tights and and above the knee skirt. Years later many students I see tell me how important it was to see how dressing the part IS important. So glad you did this series on loafers!

Love your use of tights in this video. Wondering if you could do a video dedicated to styling tights, and how to purchase tights that will stand the test of time instead of being a “wear once and they’re destroyed” accessory.

I‘ll add that some of the reasons these combinations work on you is because your hair is dark, and the loafers are dark. Like, for instance, in the little white dress outfit, your hair balances loafers. Where in someone who is blonde or has white hair a really light tan or ivory loafer, would do the same.

I love how your videos are so inspiring AND practical! Very useful observations here on socks, which are soooo difficult to figure out. Would be so good to get a video about adapting styles to winter in Canada. Boots for the commute to shoe in the office, with ankle pants for example. We see ankle pants for fall/winter fashion all the time, ALWAYS bare foot in shoes… tights, socks, footwear for commute …. Thanks !

Is that a sweater for your couch? Love it!!
See that? Love loafers with trousers! The turtleneck makes it look more balanced, verses the slouchy look all over. Because of my height, ankle pants can make me look a little shorter, so I like my trousers a little below my ankle, while still being able to see the loafer. With dresses or skirts the length at my knee works best with the loafer for me. Love the idea of sheer colored socks with my trousers! Thanks for a great video, Alyssa!!

Let me just say that nude loafers (specifically cork in my case) are awesome when it's warm enough to go sockless. In cooler weather, I switch out of an almond-toed, eggplant-hued loafer that goes great with my skirts. Every loafer tells a story, LOL! Thanks so much for sharing this!
