Obama is trying to defend himself in that speech. He is saying “I know you are all “super woke” now and that’s cool, but if you look at my record there are things that I had to do that do not necessarily reflect upon my character. I’m a good guy. Can we please just not question my “legacy”?

I don't even think TYT gets it. Obama is saying no one is pure of heart - no one, everyone has done something wrong whether intentionally or unintentionally, so for those who think, 'Oh you did something wrong, I get to call you out and then think I'm the best thing since air', those are the people he is addressing.

No one is pure, but its one thing to point out a person's flaw to help them become a better person versus you doing it to lift your selfesteem of yourself or even wealth and fame. Unfortunately 90% of so called woke culture, falls in the latter becaue they want to be notice, and in the limelight which is the other issue the woke culture advocates are facing.

Aida made the best points here, especially when she recognized the callout culture as a virtue signal to say, hey I'm not bad I'm not racist. It's not about protecting your own ego, it's about changing the systems that perpetuate racism. We have to actually acknowledge the racist algorithms built in to our institutions and seek to change them.

Tweeting about someone else's problematic statement only serves to show how woke you are and is an expression of the culture and world view you identify with. It's a vanity project and does nothing to materially help the lives of those who actually suffer from racist social structures. We have to accept that the entire world has been shaped by conquest and colonialism and seek to mitigate the effects that this legacy has had on so many people, especially people of color. Go Aida for really getting to the heart of this strange social issue.

Those who complain about "purity tests" are just pissed off they don't meet STANDARDS.
That said, let's be honest: "woke/cancel culture" has gotten out of hand. People have become far too sensitive.
