The Wizard of Oz, Victor Fleming's Technicolor Masterpiece, a film that, while originally a flop at it's domestic box office, made history through its revolutionary use of colour and practical effects. This is a deep dive into the intentions behind filmmaker Victor Fleming, reflecting his societal beliefs and values seen throughout his film.

If you want to learn more about the The Wizard Of Oz, I highly recommend watching the film for yourself, it still holds up and hasn't aged a day since its original release.

Toto means “in total, all together; Latin in toto”. Notice how Toto was not scared of the Great Wizard’s theatrics, yet he was so small in size compared to the Wizard, no-one seemed to notice him. The smoke, flames and hologram images were designed to frighten people into doing as the Great Wizard of Oz commanded. Toto simply went over, looked behind the curtain saw it was a scam, and started barking until others paid attention to him and came to see what all the barking was about.
It was just an ordinary person controlling the levers that created the illusions of the Great Wizard’s power and authority. The veil hiding the corporate legal fiction and its false courts was removed. The Wizards game was up. It’s too bad that people don’t realize just how loud a bark from a little dog is.

What people absolutely fail to notice is that this movie is all about death, the afterlife, past lives, and future lives. It literally proves that there is life after death, which is why I watch this movie religiously at least once or twice a week. It's that powerful, and it enthralls the masses because of its grip on the human unconscious. The tornado symbolizes the act of death and the turbulence associated with it. When Dorothy gets hit with the windows, the death process begins. We see within the tornado all the people who mean the most to her, both her family and her main enemy (the Wicked Witch). This is called visioning, which happens during the dying process, and you actually see what's to come (symbolized by the changing of Ms. Gulch to the Witch), and meanwhile, the ones she loves just take different forms in the next life but are the same at their core.

It's also extremely important to know that L. Frank Baum was a theosophist. What is theosophy? "Theosophy holds a monist position that there exists a single divine Absolute and articulates an emanationist cosmology in which the universe is perceived as outward reflections from this Absolute. The purpose of human life is spiritual emancipation and the human soul undergoes reincarnation upon bodily death according to a process of karma." Furthermore, the slogan for theosophy is "There is no religion higher than truth." "There is no place like home."

NEED I SAY MORE? Absolutely not. I just nailed the exact interpretation of this movie according to L. Frank Baum. You're welcome!!! Hopefully, my revelation here causes millions of people to see this movie in a brand new light.

I didn't care for the socioeconomic take on this one. I believe the film is a introspective spiritual journey.

What an incredible analysis of this legendary film! This really covers the historical context of the film which I felt was overlooked in other reviews. The rise of fascism and the class disparity are subliminal in the film, but are consistently there nonetheless. The context of the poverty is quite powerful: the setup of Dorothy being an orphan in the Dust Bowl during the Great Depression is heart wrenching & you can see how that would fuel her imagination & desire to travel. I believe there to be some occult & alchemy symbolism within the story as well. Great video! Subscribed!

The book was written in the gilded age. So how is the story about WW II? It is about adding the silver standard to our economy

Interesting interpretation. I came to a different one. It's about NPD within a family dynamic and societal one as well. The abuse leads to CPTSD in good little Dorthy. expressing itself in D.I.D. the Lion, scarecrow, and tinman. With Dorthy as the host personality. The tornado was the fracturing of her mind into multiple personalities. The house crashing down on one of the bad witch represented the real life act Dorthy committed. A death. the Wizard represents her father, The wicked witch of the west is an Aunt, mother, or older sibling in representation. the munchkins represent those in the world who see the truth since they watch it from a 3rd person point of view. they see the narcissist attack their victim, but stand aside and do nothing but sooth after the attack is over. flying monkeys are the beta personality types that become the army of the narcissistic leader. In the end, putting out the fire is what destroys the narcissist. putting out the fire the narcissist spreads.

The scarecrow tin man and lion represent thought emotion and action or mind spirit and body. Hence if I only had a brain heart and nerve. When your thoughts emotions and actions are aligned you are bound to accomplish what you set out to do. This is also the trinities in all of religion! The Father the Holy Spirit and the son.

This is the REAL meaning of it all:

"Folklore, legends, myths and fairy tales have followed childhood through the ages, for every healthy youngster has a wholesome and instinctive love for stories fantastic, marvelous and manifestly unreal. The winged fairies of Grimm and Andersen have brought more happiness to childish hearts than all other human creations.

"Yet the old time fairy tale, having served for generations, may now be classed as 'historical' in the children’s library; for the time has come for a series of newer 'wonder tales' in which the stereotyped genie, dwarf and fairy are eliminated, together with all the horrible and blood-curdling incidents devised by their authors to point a fearsome moral to each tale. Modern education includes morality; therefore the modern child seeks only entertainment in its wonder tales and gladly dispenses with all disagreeable incident.

"Having this thought in mind, the story of 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz' was written solely to please children of today. It aspires to being a modernized fairy tale, in which the wonderment and joy are retained and the heartaches and nightmares are left out.
