In this video I talk about my thoughts about a question I received in my inbox regarding the Pareto Principle and how that applies to the most important aspect of game development. Specifically, I talk about why emotional intelligence is so important when making games.

You're 100% correct. Almost all of my favorite games are games I feel I have made an emotional connection with

Thanks for the vid, this was very useful toward my mindset for games I'm creating for a Social Emotional Learning program for kids. The lack of emotional teaching through our growing years make it so much harder to make emotional connections. A lot of great points throughout the whole thing!

Really liked the idea of emotional intelligence and connecting with people through what you do as a game dev! Keep it up!

Hello! First of all, Thomas please push up the lights a bit, today vid is really dark haha! And as a game dev, I want to add that emotional connection is something you must find throught connecting with your own game, not searching a way to make the player happy. When you connect with your project and give your best, it will reflect what you want to share and will atract certain audience. I guess it's essential connecting with the game in 2 ways. First, as a creator, and second, as a player. Once you have your product or you should test a specific action, you must forget you are the creator and try to enjoy it as if it's brand new to you. So you can enjoy it and see if everything connects without the debugger eye. It's a very strange change of position, and even hard to achieve sometimes. And after this, yes, the beta testing, when real people give you external feedback. I learned for my experience that it's crucial. And the last thing. If you don't give the best in every area of your game or let some parts unpolished, even if your skills are limited, you are not fully connecting with your own game, so this will reflect in the players too. And if you create something only to please people or search emotional connection in others, the game will not be yours. Will only be a quimera, and it will not make you happy. And it reflects too. Sorry for long comment. Give your best, connect with your game and people will connect with it too. Cheers!

What I am going to do is...

Make fast pace gifs in my OBS layout. Explaining everything about me.

I guess my game dev intro was terrible. xD

Hey!

I am still new with game dev streaming stuff. xD.

I am still having a game dev praise and worship no matter what.

And I am still making Christian games without the cults and conversion nonsense.

I have a big passion for Christian games.

Cheers.

That was a clever intro. You held it for a while too, I was worried it was real XD But it was an excellent illustration.

Hi Thomas....been following you for a while and first off I just wanna say damn you looking jacked but ahem back to what I was trying to say...So I am finally trying to make my first game and I managed to assemble a small team but I feel like I am all over the place. Do you have any advice on how to connect with your team esp when they are people you are not familiar with?
