We turn our boat into an igloo! We're overwintering in the ice in Greenland and here's one of the ways we try to stay warm!

We're spending the the full winter (around 5-6 months) here, until the ice melts in May/June. Footage for this video shot in February 2025.

Some FAQs and complaints:

What you're doing is reckless, will your boat not get crushed? You'll be a burden to the local rescuers?? I think you'll die!
- These videos are for entertainment and don't even begin to show the amount of preparations and thought that has gone into this. If I began justifying each of our actions I'd have to turn these videos into 4 hour long PowerPoint lectures. Yes there is a risk associated but in this case we think it is manageable/acceptable for us.

But what about polar bears?
- Bears mainly live and hunt on the sea ice and the open ocean in this area is not frozen, thus this area normally does not have polar bears. Any bears that might come here would be stragglers that lost their way from the sea ice. Locals don't normally carry guns when they go hiking/snowmobiling in this area. Also see previous answer about risk management..

Why are you doing this?? It looks so uncomfortable and stupid
- If you look at couple of my videos and still have to ask why then it might not be worth it trying to explain! Different people like different things

I remember as a little kid in northern Canada my dad would insulate the house with snow. And for a few years in the not so far north he solicited the neighbors into donating their back yards that all were connected (before the days of Fences between yards) and he built a huge sleigh run out of ice starting in our yard with ice steps to the top of the run and it ran all way with bumps and curves through a few neighbors' yards. He would be out there icing it down in the middle of the night to make it sleeker. Thanks for the memories. That almost 70 years ago....

Those couple taps and the phrase "that's not going anywhere" adds at least an extra 50% of holding power.

I am a 74yo retired nurse living in New Jersey, USA and unable to travel so I use Youtube videos instead. I can easily say having your initial video pop up on my feed was so intriguing. Well, this is by far the most adventurous travel experiment I have ever seen!!! Thank you ever so much for sharing this with us!! Happy thoughts and prayers for the three of you!

Extreme living conditions would not bode well for this 82 year old body. I love that you both love this kind of life. As always, stay safe and well.

Horseback riding in -50c in Canadian snowstorm. The horse found the farm and cabin. No need to direct it. He saved both our lives in that bone chilling blizzard. 🇨🇦
