Storyboarder is an amazing FREE storyboard program for PC, OSX, and Linux. It's created by a friend of mine Charles Forman and his company Wonder Unit.

The program is designed specifically for storyboard artists and it has a simple and fun UI and UX. The drawing tools are simple but powerful and the program gives you a quick way to organize your boards and export a PDF, XML for NLE, or images.

I really liked using this program and I hope that it helps others save time with their storyboards.

I understand that you aren't that confident in your drawing, but it's perfectly fine for storyboarding. Yes, there are amazing storyboard artists out there who builds works of art into each panel, but the truth is, no matter how badly drawn they are drawn, they wont be in the finished product anyway. Spielberg usually jokes about how bad his is for example, and looking at them, yes they are not at all pretty. He seems to do just fine, though. But in this video it became like 15 % of content and 85 % constant apologising over perfectly adequately drawn images. It made me just go: Get on with it!

In all... It looks like an interesting app. I'm glad they aren't just making it an iOS thing. But what about aspect ratios? Exports? Rendering? Can it create something that can be opened as a timeline in a NLE? Is it resolution independet(vector based) or is it pixel based? These are the questions I want to hear about when it comes to software like this. This is not an art tutorial, so why not just do spheres or blocks and be done with it?

Also. That brush tool only working with 50% opacity... No... Just... No... Don't force something as arbitrary as that onto those who draw, mr developer...

In the end I think I'll stick with Adobe Animate, photoshop and premiere pro and the likes...

I have had the worst trouble with storyboarding. It's not just lack of talent. Though that's part of it. It's composition and its use in visual storytelling. I bought an old book, 'Grammar of the Film Language' by Daniel Arjion. And it is filled with camera set ups, from simple to extremely complex. From the individual in frame to groups. With movement of actors and cameras. Shown by hundreds of storyboards linked to top-down depictions film zones and camera placement. Along shot lists and how they're edited.

And I started to see. Really see how the storyboard is about creating a string of moments where the frame is perfectly composed to present actors and their intent. Their storygoal in that scene. Now it might seem ridiculous that I had to read a six hundred page book to start to understand this. But I guess everyone has their own path.

You don't have to be a comic book artist to make a cogent storyboard. But first you'll absolutely have to know exactly how every character should be framed. And what they're doing and why they're doing it. Shot by shot. Good software is no substitute for clear visual ideas and a coherent story. It is - at best - merely a facilitator.

You Totally missed the absolute most amazing part of this program - if you are NOT an artist - you can type in a description and Storyboard​ picture elements are created for you that are adjustable1. its amazing.

Thanks for this video, I tried Storyboard Pro once upon a time, but found it very complicated. This is a really great simple tool!
If I may give something back, you want to get rid of the watermark in the PDFs for client reasons? It's possible to do with Adobe Acrobat. Just edit the PDF, click on the watermark, press delete, then save! Easy :)

Sweet tool I just got started with animation using Adobe Creative Cloud's Character Animator tool. So this may help me bridge that gap of not knowing what to say or do next for my characters. Cool beans!! and thanks for the cool tutorial.
