I'm on mac and "appearance" is under the bolded After Effects tab at the top. You can then change the colour :)

okay so if any of u guys are confused, if it shows a white screen when opening up the console, right click on console and click debug data base. it should work

if you see the console screen fully white, press the 3 tripes on the right off console and choose debug databse viewer

For windows to open up the white tap is FN left of the windows button to activate F12 so Ctrl + Fn + F12
