I told my school teacher this fact 30 years ago. He scolded me in front of whole class for making things up 😢

Learned this a kid in the 80s when my grandfather played Lawrence of Arabia. I asked my grandfather, "Why no Saudi?" and he explained it to me.

Yep, my pops told me when I was really young! Thank you, Dr. Roy, for sharing your knowledge to audiences that are not aware of how this country was named.

This is not “weird” this is a thing that has happened all throughout history, especially with Islamic sultanates and caliphates,

Yeah for 297 years we are in love this royal family. They are from us and we are protecting our country with our own souls. 🇸🇦🇸🇦🇸🇦

Remember the British helped them do that.

Divided the Muslims and gave everything to one family

Country refers to a specific geographical area. Nation refers to a group of people united by common origins and history. State refers to a group of governing institutions with sovereignty over a specific territory and population.

This is a common occurrence in Islamic history and Arab culture, and it is very widespread. For example, the Umayyad Caliphate is derived from the name of the ruling family, Banu Umayya, and the same applies to the Abbasid Caliphate, named after Banu al-Abbas, as well as the Ottoman Empire, named after Banu Ottoman, and the Ayyubid Dynasty, named after Banu Ayyub.

Well, that one thing you don’t know is the Saudis in 1920’s, sent a message to the king, telling him to change the country’s name from kingdom of Najd and Hijaz to kingdom of Saudi Arabia, it wasn’t the king’s Idea change its name, but the people who live in this land have been loyal to this family since 1744, out of respect to this family the citizens suggested to change it.
