How To Duplicate A Track In Logic Pro X

In this logic tutorial, I keep things beginner friendly and share shortcuts to duplicate tracks in Logic Pro X!

🛠️ Under The Hood 🛠️

There are two quick ways to duplicate a track in Logic Pro.
🧰 The logic shortcut (via keyboard)
🧰 The press of a button (located above the track headers)

After using one of these methods- you'll notice that any plugins or fx have been copied to your duplicate track. However, any contents of your original track (audio or MIDI) have NOT been copied over.

To duplicate a track WITH content, follow the steps below:

1️⃣ Click on your original track (so all its content is highlighted).

2️⃣ Hold down the "option" key on your keyboard.

3️⃣ Without releasing the "option key," use your mouse to hover over any part that is highlighted.

4️⃣ Now click and drag those contents down to the duplicated track.

5️⃣ After lining up the duplicated contents on with the original track contents release your mouse, followed by releasing the "option" key.

🔔 Remember, the "option" key must be held all the way from step 2 THROUGH step 5. Otherwise, the original track contents won't be copied.

🎉 Your track has now been completely duplicated! Happy cloning 🌌

Great video. Useful tips. Is there a way to do this for drum kits? For example, I have a slightly tweaked custom TR 808 drum kit track and I want to make a duplicate track with all the same settings and regions. I haven’t found a solution aside from manually doing each kit piece track and setting. Thanks!

First mouse Click on the grey area of the track that you want to duplicate, next hold down Option key, and while holding it down just use your mouse to Drag down or up, and release! This will duplicate all the content inside the new duplicate track! Hope this helps! 😊 🎼🎷
