I always thought the difference was one was cooked and the other wasn't but this is much more informative and in-depth

After all of these years I’m just now having someone break down the differences between sushi and kimbap 😂❤

Man I'm so glad I figured out what this was. When I lived in Alabama there was a grits festival (yes grits) and there was actually a Korean booth that served these. I had no idea what they were but I just sampled them no questions ask lol. They were so yum 😋😋 but I knew they were NOT sushi.

Korean raw fish cuisine is called Hwe
KOREAN Hwe 회 is raw fish/seafood and cooked also
Hwe = slices of fish or other seafood
Chobop = raw or cooked fish / seafood over shaped rice
Hwedeopbop 회덮밥 = seafood rawfish vegetables over korean rice
Hwegimbop 회김밥 = raw fish / seafood... on top and or inside
Hwegimbop rolls are an american
creation back in the days from korean American chefs in america
In those days korean cuisine wasn't known so people started to call it sushi rolls but it's realy Hwegimbop 회김밥 a korean American food
There are many more ...

In ancient times koreans moved to the islands with there cuisine culture technology...and many times there after now known as Japan
Majority of people went to Japan was from korea and sprinkles of this and that like most countries
Like tempura isn't a Japanese food it was introduced by Portuguese
Tempura is a Portuguese term
and tonkatsu is a German/ Austria food and it's real name term is schnitzel ! And many more...
It's an island so people and cuisine culture ... was brought there by ancient people and there after...

I grew up in the Middle East so I don't have a lot of exposure to Korean cuisine in general. I have tried a few of the popular Korean dishes like Bingsu, Bibimbap, Deop Bap and Bulgogi but I would like to try some other dishes like Soondubu Jjigae and others.

My Mum would always make us tuna and noodles with a can or two of tuna cream of mushroom soup and egg noodles she'd also make a condensed tomato soup and add elbow noodles and a lil bit of butter with no extra water kind of like a cheap version of goulash

All I have to say is the hot maki beef bulgogi Kimbap from Trader Joe’s.., iconic. Idk why more people aren’t talking about this.

You did a lovely job of explaining the difference! I used 깻닙 김지 in my 김밥 once because where I live, in winter I can't grow perilla. Is that okay? I found it delicious, but don't want to be too outrageous. 😄❤️

Norimaki sushi doesn’t have to have fish. It can have any ingredients but the rice has to have vinegar in it. As long as its rolled and and it uses sushi rice, it would be norimaki. Kimbap on the other hand uses sesame oil

I still don't know why sushi is so much more popular than kimbap. Whenever I get sushi, I never get raw fish ones. The smell alone is off putting... Also, I really don't like sweet seasonings for the rice, I much rather have a nice savory taste.
I love making kimbap bakes, instead of a sushi bake 🙈 it is disappointing that there aren't many recipe video's out there for that, its all sushi bakes. I would've loved the guidance and inspiration as I'm not that familiar with Asian cuisine. So adapting recipes is very tricky.

I relate to you. It's been years but people still don't understand kebab and döner are different foods no matter how much we explain they keep saying this nonsense of döner kebab
