Today we’re going to talk about the best things to prevent premature graying of your hair. It’s natural for your hair to turn gray with age. However, many people are getting gray hair way too early.

Even though you may have genes that give you the propensity to get gray hair, there are still things you can do to help prevent your hair from graying prematurely.

The pigment in your hair and the enzymes that allow the pigment to occur are both dependent on copper. You could be deficient in copper from not consuming foods high in copper. High levels of stress can also cause a copper deficiency.

It’s important to do whatever you can to decrease stress and increase copper to prevent gray hair. It may be best to get the copper you need from foods rich in copper rather than a supplement.

As you age, you accumulate hydrogen peroxide in the hair shaft. Hydrogen peroxide can cause a bleaching effect on the hair. To slow this accumulation of hydrogen peroxide, you can try consuming foods rich in catalase.

Foods high in copper:
• Seafood (especially oysters)
• Mushrooms
• Organic, grass-fed beef liver
• Spirulina

Foods high in catalase:
• Organic, grass-fed beef liver
• Vegetables (especially cruciferous vegetables)
• Sprouts or microgreens

Things to avoid:
• Alcohol
• Smoking
• Junk foods
• Sugar
• Refined carbs
• Low-fat diets

Chronic Stress kills life. I eliminated all sorts of unhealthy foods and drinks, but I really struggle with removing stress.

Molasses. Many years ago (I’m 59 now ) started putting molasses in my coffee. I was 45 and turning gray and dying my hair. After several months taking molasses, I realized w/ a shock my hair was back to normal light brown color! Now I put both molasses & butter in my coffee. Delicious and I’m still not gray.

In India we recommend drinking water from copper jars or bottles. Preferably stored over night in these containers, empty stomach early in the morning and then normally throughout the day from these vessels. It's quite effective.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:

00:26 🧬 Premature graying is not solely genetic; epigenetic factors play a significant role.
00:51 🧪 Copper deficiency can lead to premature graying and high-stress levels deplete copper, causing gray hair.
02:17 🥦 Increasing copper intake through foods is recommended, and a 1:10 ratio of copper to zinc is ideal for supplementation.
03:10 💧 Hydrogen peroxide accumulation with age causes hair to turn gray; catalase enzyme breaks down hydrogen peroxide, and eating catalase-rich foods is preferred over supplements.
05:10 🍽️ Foods high in copper include seafood, shellfish, oysters, mushrooms, organic grass-fed beef liver, and spirulina.
05:24 🥗 Foods rich in catalase, such as grass-fed beef liver, cruciferous vegetables, and microgreens, can help combat hydrogen peroxide accumulation.
05:50 🚭 Lifestyle changes like stress reduction, exercise, and avoiding unhealthy foods are crucial for hair health.
06:03 🥩 A higher-fat diet, like the ketogenic diet, may help increase catalase levels and improve overall health.
06:33 🐭 Stimulating the catalase gene in mice resulted in a significant increase in lifespan, suggesting its importance in combating free radical damage and agin.

I’ve had grey hairs since I was 15. I decided to embrace it during the lockdown.

It is funny, I went on the carnivore diet and cut out all green veggies and my hair began to slowly darken after 4 months. I was always a big cruciferous veggie guy and into natural foods. But I was getting sick fast after I reached 60 with failing teeth, grey hair, wrinkles and overall lack of vitality. To me it made no sense. And that seems to be something that many people experience. All the health problems rapidly turned around when I began the carnivore diet. And I was not doing it to lose weight, because I was underweight due to failing health. In part, I feel the rapid revitalization was due to the vitamin rich high intake of healthy animal fats. My wrinkles were the first to go. Within three months my dental problems were gone, with no more nerve pain, infection and such and I had cavities that healed over. There are many roads leading to good health, but I have found that the key is to eliminate mineral deficiencies. For me grass fed, organic fatty beef is the easiest source of nutrients. Plants are complicated on many levels, all plants have varying levels of minerals, and most have deficiencies of trace minerals due to bad farming practices or depleted soil. Then there are the nutrient blocking toxins that the plant itself creates to protect it from being eaten. That is my experience. I still eat plantains, white rice and avocados because like I said, I do not want to lose weight and they are low in anti nutrients. But the beef and fat seem to be catalyst to my remineralization, and hormone balancing revitalization.

Avoiding stress also means avoiding toxic, stress-inducing people. Being with these people is like is like climbing a very steep hill. Very draining.

We raise goats and it is well known that dark coloured goats who are copper deficient go a light blonde colour on the outer layer of their coats. Copper is essential for their immune systems especially during stressful times. I once took a supplement for carpal tunnel and my grey hair grew in nice and dark. Checked the ingredients to find it contained copper!

This checks out based on personal experience. My grandmother still has her natural hair color and only a little gray at 85. My older brother started getting gray hairs in college. She likes home grown foods and farm raised foods.

I don’t mind the premature graying so long as it’s not premature bolding. That is something I most fear. All the things listed that prevent premature grey hair are things I have been taking already like to prior advance from you. Thanks so much for the helpful health guidance.

So true. I first heard of copper for grey hair from Dr. Joel Wallach who taught the copper deficiency/grey hair correlation decades ago and found it certainly works for myself and others. I'm 57 and still happily have very few grey hairs and never colored. :) Zinc gluconate...and others, has always been taken in conjunction.

I’m 46yrs old and have no grey hairs. I had some by my early 40’s before I embarked on a huge health and longevity drive, adding NMN, a large number of supplements, regular exercise and a monthly multi-day fast. Within months all the grey hairs had disappeared, very strange but I’m also not the only person to see this. I can only assume the combined improvements to my NAD, removal of senescent cells and so forth have all contributed to removing excess hydrogen peroxide.

I am in my 60s and have very little gray, even though I have endured periods of great stress over the last 20+ years. My mom also grayed early. I took the advice given in the Aubrey organics book and began taking paba and pantothenic acid together, intermittently since my late 20s. It definitely has had a positive effect. Fasting also helps hair grow back and NOT gray!

My late mother died at age 86 without grey hair, she was a natural dark brunette & never went grey or white.

I ate salmon 3 to 4 times a week and took high potency B vitamins daily and it reversed my gray hair. I am 60.5 years old with no grey hair except a few on each side where my side burns are.
