You see MCdonalds didn't create the mcrib to take away from the chicken nuggets, during the 70's and 80's beef prices were skyrocketing, most fastfood chains turned to chicken as a substitute, but mcdonalds turned to pork. The problem was that pork is not as flexible as chicken and beef and was stipp expensive, so with the help of a chemist and one of their top chef's they created a faux pork that they designed to look like ribs. Actually, originally it was going to be porkchop shaped but they thought rib shaped was more appetizing.
