Close but no cigar. You see MCdonalds didn't create the mcrib to take away from the chicken nuggets, during the 70's and 80's beef prices were skyrocketing, most fastfood chains turned to chicken as a substitute, but mcdonalds turned to pork. The problem was that pork is not as flexible as chicken and beef and was stipp expensive, so with the help of a chemist and one of their top chef's they created a faux pork that they designed to look like ribs. Actually, originally it was going to be porkchop shaped but they thought rib shaped was more appetizing.
