Ma knew her worth and stood her ground. That's why they labelled her difficult

This is based on a play and not an actual biopic of Ma Rainey. This is one hot afternoon in the north at a recording studio. I will say this film does make me want to know more about Ma Rainey.

As sad as it was it literally felt like Chadwick KNEW this was gonna be his last role and he gave us everything and the kitchen sink. I literally was in tears watching this beautiful film.

Saw the movie last night and it was good. I also felt Viola didn’t get enough screen time. Chadwick did amazing! All the Actors did so good. One scene that got me emotional was when Ma Rainey had the belief in her nephew to say his part without stuttering and he did it! You can see the joy in her face afterwards it was touching.

I have to say one thing that stuck out for me is that Ma Rainey had a girlfriend. Moms Mabley was gay and Bessie was bi yet some people still will act like being into the same sex is something brand new. Black gay and trans people have been here for years.

Chadwick also learned how to play the trumpet for real

So many lessons to take away from Levee Green in this film.

Viola Davis is the front runner for her performance in this film.Chadwick Boseman I think will win best actor or best supporting actor posthumously.

Give Chadwick his flowers!!! 💐 Viola and Glenn Turman also gave outstanding performances. I cried and I laughed. My mouth dropped at times. Sometimes it felt like a play, but I love plays & Broadway. ✨

I do not have a problem with people calling Ma Rainey difficult. She is the talent and understands that these people want her voice so they will have to give in to her demands and pay her what is stated in her contract.

This is what my soul has been needing. A stellar cast and Chadwick Boseman's last film all a while suffering from stage 4 cancer...not to mention Viola Davis' amazing performance, both of them most definitely are giving Oscar vibes. I can't tell you all how special this really is. If you've watched Ma Rainey's Black Bottom then you must watch the making of it, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom: Legacy Brought to Screen. Powerful!

Colman is such a great actor. His voice is so distinguished and mesmerizing. I enjoyed the movie and everyone's performance was magnificent. Chadwick was amazing and Viola is just everything.

Seriously, the movie was about Ma Rainey, but Levee's scenes were more poignant and connecting. Levee presented many lessons to ponder. Ma Rainey had the agency that Levee was too ill-equipped to grasp, let alone obtain!

Just saw it started slow but Chadwick did the thing with his performance

I love Chadwick, but the God scene was very difficult to watch, so much so that I could not finish the movie. As an actor, he definitely did his job.

oh my gosh i agree with you about viola & the lip syncing ! one of my favorite moments was toledo and his speech about stew and the colored man being a left over such a great way of speaking about black people not being valued anymore and not knowing their identity

It is sad, that in 2020 we still have a problem with race and image in the music industry. Victoria Monét has written number one songs yet her own songs get no support. The ending of the white band was just a gut punch.

Her opening line to this video killed me LOL. Love this girl’s energy.
