This scene was so much more! When she says “ they just want me for my voice” so true! It was about them treating her as a human. Treating her with respect! She knew her worth!

"Damn what the band say." I love it! She was NOT playin' with them.

People confuse being bossy with being the boss. Her demands were not unreasonable. I bet if this was Elvis Presley, he would have remembered the Coke 🥤

This is one of the best scenes in this movie. I love the way she commands her respect and her coke cola.

she's not bossy, she's the boss. when she is a mother of blues and she needs a cold coca-cola, you keep your mouth shut and bring her a god damn cold coca-cola

This is Chadwick Boseman's last film. He died on August 28, 2020, after a 4-year battle with colon cancer. Unbeknownst to his fellow cast members, Boseman was receiving cancer treatment while filming this movie.

I love it. In those times white producers, directors, etc. took advantage of black artist singers and actors. Ma, like many others, decided that she was not going to be taken advantage of. This reminds me of Aretha Franklin and why she brings her purse on stage with her!

Ma Rainey knew that they wouldn't spit on her if she was on fire if she couldn't sing. So she never got the lines crossed even if she worked with them for years, they weren't friends.

I've never seen this movie, but I love her for her request for Coca-Cola! I love Coca-Cola too!❤

She was right. Quit getting mad when people are right. Sure, it’s embarrassing at first when you’re the wrong one, but it’s an opportunity to learn something.

that’s the music industry all they need is your voice you need their studio, their equipment, their record machines and their distributors you need them a whole lot more than they need you with that attitude you can sing on a street corner i’m sorry but that’s just how it is
