Great review! I was quite worried when they released this Sonos as it might be better than my XM5’s, thank God, the latter still comes out of the top. Indeed it is the gold standard for noise cancelling earphones.

Now that was a great test of the mic. Gives me better perspective. It's not just about cancelling background noise. It's about retaining your voice. The Sonos Ace let some audio in, . but it was still possible to understand what you were saying on the train. With the XM5, it removed all background noice incluiding your own voice :)

Which to get if you can get them for almost the same price?
I value physical buttons a lot but trust sony more since I have a set of (very worn) XM3s

Sonys pretty loud but it is slightly muddy. Sonos is neutral and sounds not as loud but gives a pretty clean sound. I would prefer sonos but price wise, sony wins. Hope this helps!
Edit: btw Sony wins with the ANC, god fucking tier.

One comment - I just purchased the SONOS ACE and I am able to use them while they are plugged in. Also can you compare them to the Bowers and Wilkens PX7 or PX8?

Sonos had time to make their headphones the best just by listening to the best ones on the market and having someone with good ears test their samples and say this is better and then release them. But I don’t think that’s how things work. It just shows how a company can have all the time in the world and all the intel/ info to make their product the best and still come up short because the other companies have more experience and knowledge. Maybe Sonos will keep improving with their next product and gain the experience the other companies have they are the best when it comes to soundbars tho.

APMs are overpriced garbage, Sonos is just better in every single way.

Also, Bose QC Ultras are much better than the XM5s, as the sound is much more balanced and the overall build quality is far superior.

You’re wrong the Sonos headphones have got nothing to do with the Sonos ecosystem. Nothing at all they’re only compatible with one sound bar that’s it with a potential for more in the future.
They have got nothing to do with the ecosystem just like the Apple headphones. I’ve got nothing to do with the Apple ecosystem. You’re not gonna buy a pair of apple headphones and then buy a Mac Pro. It is a stupid way of looking at it.
