Engines like these are amongst my favorite to shoot a video about. Especially that KrAZ is something really really cool and that Tatra - I have a soft spot for Tatra since it is almost like a home manufacturer. Which one do you love the most? Don't forget to follow my IG and FB @visioracer

One thing that most people don't know about steam engines is they develop all the torque at basically zero rpm (much like an electric motor does).
This is ideal for a heavily loaded vehicle such as a truck, or a freight train for that matter.
Glad you included #2!

Honestly, I have loved every single video you've released, simply for the fact that you put so much effort into bettering your content, and always have really interesting facts that most other channels miss. I've been subscribed since you only had about 100 subs and haven't regretted it, ever. Keep it up man, much love from all the way in South Africa.

KrAZ-255 was and still is one of most legendary Soviet trucks of all time. Very favorable in our military during Soviet times, but more so in logging today. For its class, its weight capacity, fording ability and powerful engine (plus Soviet construction) makes them hard to kill. They just keep going.

Damn that steam engine truck is crazy.

You can always count on Russia for producing crazy off road trucks 😁

You "forgot" the 2 stroke Detroit diesels from GM. And maybe you can do one in "crazy" train engines too, and include the British Deltic diesels?

My man, good to see you in the flesh! Glad you are back up and about after your couple of close calls. After I had totaled two Honda Interceptors through the carelessness of others, nearly being killed on the more recent one, and spending years in recovery, glad to see you going!!

Pleasure to “meet” you. Best of luck, keep up the good work, and be safe!
Much love and respect from Massachusetts.

Interesting how quite a few of those engines are filmed in the UK.

These days, I drive a MAZ 5440A5 with Euro 3 variant of the KrAZ engine, the YaMZ 658. For a Yaroslavl V8, it is very economical, producing better fuel economy than many equivalent European engines of the '90s. Reliability is also good, provided, as with everything, you keep up with proper servicing. The engine previously used in this model of truck was the YaMZ 7511, a Euro 2 engine with fully mechanical high pressure fuel pump. Those engines are less fuel efficient, but far simpler in construction, and come with either single piece engine heads (considered stronger) or individual cylinder heads (considered much easier to maintain). All variants are still widely in use today.
