Part of me likes to believe that whatever happened with the machine actually wasn’t her fault and instead was the result of whatever experiment Sigma was doing with gravity, causing some space shenagains that caused a rush of sunlight energy to flood into the momentary vacuum caused by his black hole gravity experiment, meaning that when activated, Ilari was filled with a huge burst of sun energy, could help interconnect the world and characters in a fancy way

To give you more lore about Peruvian culture and why this character nailes it <3

The sun itself is one of the most important part of peruvian culture, Peru was also known as the "Land of the Sun". Most peruvian ancient cultures would take the sun as their main deity, since the sun would bring life to the people, animals and the crops. Peru was colonized by Spain and forced into cristianity (shocker right?) but to this day there still exist what we call "Inti Raimi" which means "party of the sun" to celebrate the sun and life, the name is in quechua, one of the ancient peruvian languages, and is still used to this day. This celebration usually take place on Cusco, one of the ancient and emblematic cities of Perú, it ususally takes place around July which is also the month of our independence day, july 28. You can see a little representation of the celebration in the movie Transformers: Rise of the beasts

The name Illari is pretty common too, also coming from quechua, and it means "Dawn", related to the sun and new begginigs.

It's amazing how the scenario take place on what looks to be a zone of jungles but also forest and mountains, this is probably because it might be taking place in Cusco itself, which has this 2 types of biomes at the same time, forest and jungles. Also amazing that it shows to apparently be a hidden futuristic culture, it is known that many unknown tribes have been discovered in the jungle of peru, even in the last 20 years (i think i barely remember) so is not crazy to think that there might be more hidden tribes or civilizations we dont know about.

While playing her I was thinking how she’s boring and had no personality. But then I listened to her voice lines and thought maybe there’s a reason why she sounds monotonous, or very serious about everything. This origin story confirms that. ☺️

I think she could tie into the next short possibly seeking out Zenyatta to find inner peace with her grievous mistake and once she gets there she finds Talon swarming the temple. Maybe she’d help him escape and that’s how she becomes one the Overwatch members! I’m excited I LOVE her deign and gameplay I’m hoping for a bit more personality tho she seems to have a potential soft side and I’d love to see more of it
