HX Stomp Update 3.0 - 8 Blocks, Command Center, Princess Model Line 6's Best Firmware
A broad look at my favorite features of the new 3.0 update which totally changed the game in the HX Stomp, making it the single most powerful piece of gear for guitarists. Despite being so great, it still has a serious fault that could turn some users off...

I’ve had an Iridium in the fx loop of my HX Stomp and it’s so epic now more than ever! Being able to save the dsp from amp and IR is amazing! 8 blocks made it even better

Way to tell it like it is, Steve. The additional functionality given to the Stomp is fantastic. Like you said, use the effects loop now and you should be golden. Not everyone understands that the limitations of the Stomp aren’t very limited considering the price point of the unit. Thanks again for a very informative video my friend. Really appreciate the effort.

Dude! Beautiful and bring it. I’ve been pushing solutions to go to a fully integrated floor + stomp super helix. It’s going well but we have found a thing this weekend that needs working around. Totally dig the video, That must’ve been a wealth of work put into that.
Give Audrey a hug from us. Will be popping up a series of small experiments and helix floor presets I want you to try.

For me, 8 blocks is huge. I have an Iridium in the HX Stomp FX loop, which I use most of the time as my amp and cab. I bought it specifically to allow me to concerve DSP in the Stomp. So, I will generally have no problem using the extra 2 blocks. And I can still build presets that use internal amps/cabs by just not using the FX loop. Great flexibility. I also love the Favorites and the Defaults. I also love Princetons, and look forward to using the Princess model a bit. I sort of wish they had also included a Princeton Amp model (non-reverb - these amps are not the same minus the reverb). The 12 string may come in handy, but it uses 50% of th DSP, so it will be rather limiting (My Iridium will help a lot here). I am exceited to see if Command Center has any good uses for me - this is unclear at the moment because I have the MorningStar MC6. But I may learn some new ways to approach control that would take advantage of both. If you have ideas on this front (Command Center + MIDI controller - how to divide the work and conquer), I'd love to see you do a video on that.

I'd love to see a video about mic selection on the Princess. I'm struggling between how much bass to add on the amp vs mic selection. Would love to see your take on that. To me, the 8 blocks feature is definitely the best - when I'm making videos I like to use the send to go to the laptop for recording and the main outs to go to my speakers. I had a lot of patches I couldn't use because I was using all 6 blocks. This feature is killer. I also agree the Princess does seem to have something extra that the other amps don't have - it really sounds great.

6 vs. 8 blocks and DSP implications -- You've mentioned that you like dual cabs and even dual amps. Things like that will fill up DSP faster of course. With farily simple signal chains (overdrive, modulation, amp, cab, delay, reverb), it becomes possible to add a Wah and a Volume pedal, or an eq and another modulation, and this will mean fewer presets are needed. I don't often use wah and 2 mods in the same song :) but, with 6 blocks I had to create 3 separate presets to support those "3 song types". Now, 1 preset can likely handle all 3 needs. This also means I can use fewer banks in my MC6 (I dedicate a bank per Stomp preset usually), which is a big deal since they are limited to 30. But Helix users, like yourself, have gotten hooked on the more complex signal chains (understabndably), and so even with 8 blocks, the DSP in a Stomp will limit you. I have the advantage of simpler needs, and no experience playing with such complex signal chains. Frankly, I suspect that guys like me are who the Stomp was built for. You strike me as more of an LT or Floor guy - but don't sell your Stomp. We need more of your Stomp vids :)

8 blocks is my favorite update. As far as new sounds, the Princeton and its cabinets.

All I really need is to be able to add a wah to my fav 6 block patches I have created. So the extra blocks should be a big help with that.

The Glitch Delay is the shit. Seriously going to be a game changer for me when using it with my keys. Also the Princess amp model is killer and easily one of my favorites now

8 blocks is nice. Overall it's a very nice update. I updated an HX Effects too, not nearly as exciting 🙂 Those units serve a specific purpose, still cool.

Just chiming In on what other have said, would love to hear your preset for the princess amp. Thanks.

well, it's nice of them to add all new fx even if there isn't enough DSP power to create a full poly pitch shifter + amp + cab etc. patch with it. Now you can at least try it out with the HX stomp as a pedal in front of an amp.

Hi Steve,
for me the most of use are the Princeton with cabs and new looper.

I’m a fan of the 70’s ram’s head and the Princeton. Ram’s head has some great bottom end.
