You are the man! Been trying to access my Maxtor Basics External Hardrive for over an hour now. This worked perfectly. Could not find the answer on Microsoft's or Maxtor's websites. Thank you! Subscribed! Now it's time to look at my children's childhood pictures!

I love your videos, they are very helpful...but this one has me stuck....

I had access to this external drive last week no problem. It's 2 TB of files and programs. When i try to launch my music DAW (on local disk), i go to load a project which has files on my external drive, now it suddenly says i do not have access to this file/folder. I changed the permissions for just the file. I tried for just the folder as well as the directory. Nothing changed. I tried to share it as a network drive too . I also added full access for "everyone" applications, administrator, users and still nothing. I tried to share it as a network drive as well ..still no luck.

I can however copy and paste from that drive to my local just fine. But any programs on my external are now not opening correctly or at all, and nothing can be imported.

The last try was to change the permission to the entire drive but when I hit apply, it starts scanning EVERY FILE .... and i ain't got time for that lol.... But in between scan, an error will pop up for like e:\ $recyclebin or something.... That doesn't seem right.... I don't have a recycling bin on my external i don't think anyway....

Is there a more direct non time consuming way to resolve this? Surely I'm doing something wrong .. PLEASE HELP :( ❤️

I tried it all, still won’t allow me to move a file from my external had drive to my my regular one, let alone even open the files normally, i got as far as it allowing me to look through the folders, but per say an image, or the ability to move it, same problem still, what’s the “enable inheritance” mode, maybe thats it? Let me know

Hello and thank you for posting this. I just transferred my data from a broken laptop to my new one .. I had trouble getting permission to access the files so I did your recommendations and it worked. Now should I change the settings back somehow to the original default settings? I changed the access to “everyone “ and don’t know if that would cause a security issue with anyone being able to access the new laptop.. thanks!

After following your steps… I got a window that says “Error applying security: an error occurred while applying security information to: D:\system volume information\IndexerVolumeGuid Faild to enumerate objects in the container. Access is denied”

Is there a way to fix it from here?
