Papayas are usually ready to be picked when they are fully ripe and the skin turns yellowish-orange. The fruit should yield to gentle pressure, and the stem should begin to loosen. If the stem does not loosen, the fruit is not yet ripe. Papayas can also be picked slightly earlier when the skin is still green but the fruit is fully grown. These green papayas will ripen after they are picked if left at room temperature.

It's important not to wait too long to harvest papayas, as they can quickly become overripe and spoil. It's recommended to check on your papayas regularly and harvest them as soon as they are ripe.

Hi Tim. I have a 2 year old papaya tree that was producing tons of fruit, about 6 months ago the fruit wasn’t ripening so I put down some good soil, fertilizer etc & for about a month I got them to ripen, now again for the past 2 months I have not had one ripen but there has to be 30 papayas on the tree, do you have any suggestions?
