AWAKEN AKIRA - 1988 TRAILER VERSION / HD

After rewatching Akira in theaters in 4K for the fist time last month, I fell in love again with that masterpiece of master Katsuhiro Otomo. And before that I discovered an incredible trailer from two incredibly talented guys: Ash Thorp and Zaoeyo (XiaoLin Zeng) who made this incredible 3D tribute trailer on AKIRA, called « Awaken Akira ».

I loved that tribute so much that I wanted to see what it would be like in 2D with the original scenes from the movie, so I took the superb them created by Pilotpriest and edited the trailer in 2D with some changes in the shots and edit etc..

I had a real pleasure making that for my family and little sister that saw the movie for the first time.

I really want to thank them for their work and thank master Otomo for that piece of art that is both the manga and the movie.

watched Akira in 1990 or so in France on a french network (canal+) and had to fight my dad who considered it a piece of crap, manga and anime being less than shit for him. The legend of Akira for me comes from the extreme rartity of knowing it was released in the first place and then being able to watch it. I recorded it on a tape a fkn watched it over and over again. This movie is a masterpiece, a part of my being, and surely a part of a lot of people who watched this trailer. You guys did a tremendous job and I almost thought that this would be remake of some sort, as the prod is on par with what a remake could be. It won't. But maybe some day. Maybe. Cheers guys. So proud of the tribute.

I love it! But I do miss the iconic empty throne with the banner/cape draped over it when the half-screaming chords crescendo, drop and open. Still, the door with the name on it was an amazing choice of alternate, seeing as it wouldn’t keep with the theme to actually show Tetsuo.

Honestly, I like this one better than the original. The shots you used to replace the cgi shots the original used I think captures the feeling of the film better. Great job
