‘It is not hyperbole. The actual balance of our democracy rests in the actions that we choose to make’ — Watch AOC respond to RBG’s death and explain what the SCOTUS vacancy means for our future
In US news and current events today, AOC spoke out about the death of RBG and urged Americans to ‘be more courageous’ as the fate of SCOTUS remains undecided. AOC went live on Instagram on Friday, September 18, just hours after Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away. The Supreme Court justice reportedly died of cancer complications. She was 87. RBG’s death has immediately sparked controversy over who will decide who fills her vacant SCOTUS seat. On the same night of her death, Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said, despite RBG’s wishes, he will bring a nominee to the Senate for a vote. McConnell’s move is hypocritical to his stance in 2016, when he refused to hold hearings or a vote for months on Obama’s SCOTUS nominee, Merrick Garland. At the time, McConnell justified his delay by claiming the American people should have a say in the process.
