What is the difference between a formal suit jacket, a blazer and a sports jacket or a sports coat - this is for the idiots running fashion channel here on youtube and do not know this btw its for you too

a suit jacket is the most formal of the three and it comes with a matching trousers made out of the exact same fabric which is of course finer than what u would use for the other two

a blazer is the second most formal of the two and it is made out of a thicker material - it does not come with a trouser and it has these contrasting golden or silver buttons. It is simple just like a suit jacket without any patterns

on the other hand
a sports jacket would have patterns both on the material and on the design front like patch pockets and elbow patches
