Even Johan would be proud of your impression of him, Joel. Between this and Spider-Man life story, Chip is Marvel’s best alternate reality writer. If they ever decide to bring back what if as an ongoing monthly book again, he’s the man for the job.

When looking back at this miniseries as whole, I think this comic can be consider Marvel's answer to DC's Kingdom Come

- Both stories take place in a possible future

- Both focus on veteran hero (Captain America/Superman) bringing back the old generation of heroes (Avengers/Justice League) from retirement to fix the mistakes of the new generation

- Both tackle the public losing faith in the heroes or being manipulate by villains

- Both have a villain or group of villain (Red Skull/Lex Luthor) in the shadows pulling the strings of the events

- Both climax is a epic battle, where the villain reveals his big weapon is brainwashed super hero (Hulk/Shazam)

- Both final battle end with giant explosion and a hero making a huge sacrifice to save the others (Iron Man/Shazam)

- In the end both main heroes (Captain America/Superman) retire once again and go back to live a normal life, now more hopeful for the future that will be create by this new generation of heroes
