The protester lady from Australia is crazy, King Charles and the present UK isn't responsible for what happened in her country, those men are long gone and they're already been judged in Heavens for their actions. As an islander like me, i want no paybacks from the UK or waste time talking about the past. Let's move forward and create more opportunities for all the Commonwealth members to be entitled on good education, good health services and jobs... We dont have much in the islands but we're fine and very happy with what we have.

UK did not start slavery but they ended it here. Any reparations I believe that should have happened to the families affected at the time they were enslaved not hundreds of years later when immediate family members either no longer live or are impossible to trace or prove. Reparations should be demanded from the root of slavery which is in obscure, probably an extinct tribe or tribes in Africa.

It was ancient times.
The British shouldn't pay for barbarian behaviour from the past.

The young lady does not understand, she must have been born in a different time and place ? she should speak to the older generation who were actually affected by the injustices they had to endure, some of them may be alive and their families who had to hear the horrific stories on a daily basis. No one acknowledges these things have happened and continued years after . Has anybody checked what goes on abroad to indigenous people now ?

Pathetic. Uk lifted slavery as the very first country. Entire world has slaves, and there's more of them in Africa right now than back before. You can literally go to Liberia and buy one for 300 bucks now. Stop feeling guilty.

It would have been better to have a real historian expert in slavery and colonisation.. 3 people out of 4 in this tv program are of african or indian origin so the discussion lacks objectivity. They all get too emotional ( which is understandable) and it’s hard to follow their train of thoughts…

News Flash: Modern day African nations like Nigeria are only about 60 years old. None of those nations are responsible for slavery. The kingdoms of Dahome, Oyo and Asante, for example, are all extinguished! Britian is still in existence unlike the African kingdoms that participated. There is only one African king in all of Africa that still has power over his government and that is King Mswati of Swaziland.

I don’t see how the fact that some African countries were involved in slavery means that Britain was not responsible for their own role in slavery. The two things can be true at once. Every educated person knows that there were kingdoms in Africa that were involved in slavery. As far as I can tell the people calling for reparations are not basing it solely on slavery anyway. It seems that they are basing it on the combination of the two evils of slavery PLUS colonialism! Why not make the institutions that funded, supported and made money hand over fist doing these things pay compensation to the governments of the countries for funding specific things like education, development, infrastructure, cancelling their debt to foreign banks after being forced to tie their country’s economy to European interests etc.?
