The TRUTH About Dragon Age Veilguard REVIEWS
In this Dragon Age The Veilguard Review. We're going to be talking about why we're actually not doing a review for the Veilguard today, why this should matter to you, and why it's important. We don't normally make videos like this on Fextralife YouTube channel. We typically stay out of drama. But what I want to talk about today is going to impact the way that you watch reviews today, the ones that are coming out today and this information should not be kept from you.

The fact that EA stopped replying to you or misled you about getting a review code is actually an issue in my opinion. Transparency is very important in these situations.

This situation reminds me of that Game of Thrones line from Tyrion. “When you tear out a man’s tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you’re only telling the world that you fear what he might say.” Thanks for letting us know about how they treated you, and I think that alone is enough for me to not buy the game.

People dislike Ubisoft now, but EA is reminding us why they've always been worse.

After Anthem I don't know why ANYONE would purchase a new Bioware game without being extremely cautious and skeptical.

As a dev myself (not Veilguard, but on a similarly-sized game) — yes you are absolutely correct. Publisher/Developer PR is completely unabashed about their goal of manipulating the press and public for more sales of the game. Early positive preview coverage is more likely to lead to invites to even more exclusive events, and continued positive coverage is likely to lead to review codes (and the opposite is true - bad coverage will lead to lack of responsiveness or limited access). This is a tale as old as time - multiple big outlets (IGN, Eurogamer, Kotaku) have even been blacklisted by certain publishers (Square Enix, Ubisoft, Konami, etc.) over their negative reviews before.

It makes me really sketched out as a developer, because what we always want is genuine love for what we make, not putting thumbs on the scales. But to a certain extent I can understand some of the caution, cause you can also totally fuck yourself by giving out too many review codes - there are certain outlets (particularly certain individual creators) who thrive on malicious negativity and will also end up shaping the narrative of your game's release if given the opportunity. But drawing the line is difficult, and almost always goes WAY too far.

Wolfheart being excluded is already quite ridiculous, but this channel is huge in the genre, it's pretty much impossible to ignore. There is no coincidence in this decision of theirs. I'm done giving EA of all companies the benefit of doubt, and it's ridiculous that everyone has been pretending that they must be coming from a good place given who they are and their long history of awful practices.

In short, this is what we call access journalism

Not giving review codes to content creators who are too honest with their opinions is a massive red flag. That already speaks volumes for the actual quality of the game.

I watch Wolfheart all the time and he is being labeled as the worst of the worst on Twitter for speaking up about this. He is such a nice guy too. That's Twitter though. Thank you for speaking up.

Bethesda did the same thing for Starfield. The reviews on launch vs a month later looks completely different (and not because the game was in a better state on launch than later)

This has gone from “waiting for reviews “ to directly “no buy”

What EA failed to realize is that all the people waiting for reviews are only gonna trust reviewers with integrity. By rejecting the reviewers with integrity EA just pushed all the “waiting” people to the “not buying” category. Myself included. Last straw guys. I mean it this time.

Bro if even Fextralife joins the drama party you know you done goofed.

Denying codes based on criticism is not rare.

Games journalism (holistic critical writing) companies have been destroyed or bought by GameStop, because companies know they can use YouTubers as reviewers instead of going through journalists who might be critical. And the YouTubers who don’t play ball don’t get access.

Fextralife is learning this reality first hand. This is why supporting good games journalism organizations is so important.

And that's why you never buy on release. Not only will a later purchase tend to be cheaper, it'll also be less buggy and you'll be more likely to get a product that fits into what you're looking for.

I honestly feel its just going to be another Andromeda event. Where the only thing worth praising is the combat and class customization, while everything else suffers.

Doesn't matter who made this decision, BioWare should know its reputation is hanging by a thread. A move like this is like holding scissors to that thread.

This is why media manipulation is so dangerous, thank you for shining a light on it.

The lack of party control character and party customization paired with the lack of available hotkeys prior to having any hands on time with the game already drastically disappointed me . Feels like weve went back to DA:2 which makes no sense after Inquisition was so good had everything you could want similar to that of DA:ORIGINS with the exception of the ability to swap between two weapon sets which DA:Veilguard does have however with the lack of available hotkeys and the lack of being able to preset abilities specific to each weapon set it somewhat defeats the purpose. Not to mention being able to control your party members is a key feature that differentiated itself from the Mass effect series
