Graphene is considered a 2D material because it is made up of a single layer of carbon atoms that are arranged in a hexagonal lattice structure. This lattice structure is incredibly thin, with a thickness of just one atomic layer, which is approximately 0.35 nanometers (nm).

In a 3D material, the atoms are arranged in a lattice structure that extends in all three dimensions: length, width, and height. However, in graphene, the atoms are only arranged in a 2D lattice structure, with no thickness or height. This means that graphene has no internal structure or volume, and it is essentially a flat, 2D sheet of carbon atoms.

There are several reasons why graphene is considered 2D:

1. *Atomic thickness*: Graphene is made up of a single layer of carbon atoms, which is just one atomic layer thick. This means that it has no internal structure or volume.
2. *Lattice structure*: The carbon atoms in graphene are arranged in a hexagonal lattice structure, which is a 2D arrangement of atoms.
3. *No out-of-plane bonding*: In graphene, the carbon atoms are only bonded to their neighbors in the same plane, with no out-of-plane bonding. This means that the atoms are not connected to each other in the third dimension.
4. *Electronic properties*: Graphene's electronic properties, such as its conductivity and band structure, are also characteristic of a 2D material.

Overall, graphene's unique 2D structure is what gives it its remarkable properties, such as its high conductivity, strength, and flexibility. These properties make graphene an exciting material for a wide range of applications, from electronics and energy storage to composite materials and biomedical devices.

5 yrs se sunn ra hu graphene revolution layega, tape se nikal kr bna skte he graphene but still industrial and large scale pr isko extract krna is costly!!! can't understand... sense some wrong intentions to make money

Are atoms 2d? If no then if something made of only one layer of atom then how can it be 2d. In reality nothing exists below 3d. Not even 1d quantum dot. Because it has all 3 measurements length breath and height, no measurement is zero, that is because atom itself has all 3 measurements which are non zero. Then how something madeup of atoms itself can have zero as measurement for one or 2 of its dimensions.
