Sykes' solo on this is one of the best, most exciting and electrifying solos ever. Not only is it exciting, but it actually does go somewhere. Vai and Vandenberg were never able to capture that momentum and linear progression. Sykes is KIng on this one. And I do genuinely prefer this to the original from '82. That's good but a bit boring.

Interesting comment about Cozy... this makes me think that Coverdale must have offered him a small percentage of profits, not just a straight fee. A bit like Alec Guinness on Star Wars. No one could have known how many copies '1987' would go on to sell, but I think it's safe to say that it earned everyone involved life changing amounts of money.

More electrifying, intense - and commercial.

If Cozy left after rock in Rio to join ELP, how can it be that 1987 was created that spring with Cozy in mind???!

Great song, but prefer the original on Saints & Sinners l.p. as I also do Here I Go Again.

But yet you couldn't handle it and broke up that band. John Sykes MADE you in the US. No doubt about it.

Very distasteful to hear Coverdale talking about Millions of dollars, in the context of what might have been, for the deceased Cozy Powell.
Especially as Sykes & Murray allegedly had to get lawyers involved to get royalties.
Coverdale is utterly ruthless & deludedly narcisstic.
I wonder what Neil Murray thinks of all this??

Awesome singer but ruthlessly machiavellian .. to the point of being unlikeable
