Hello and welcome! My name is Anton and in this video, we will talk about the recent discovery of what a surface of a pulsar 1000 light years away from us may look like.

If you see these magnetic field lines and the amount of energy in the system the term "Spaghetti monster" seems to fit quite well.

if you stood on a neutron star and dropped your phone it would hit the ground at 5 million km/h
so yep you would probly crack your screen 😢

Neutron stars and Magnetars are my favorite astronomical objects. I've always been drawn to them.

I had a backlash on a fishing reel that looked just like that pulsar map.

Hello Anton, this is wonderful person.

Hi Anton, I am a master's student at the University of Amsterdam and am part of the NICER collaboration. I am really glad to see you cover this discovery and give a glimpse of its significance to the public. One thing I want to clarify is that J0030 is an isolated neutron star (NS) and is not currently accreting material onto it from a nearby donor. The hotspots in such situations are caused due to return currents in the NS magnetosphere depositing energy in the surface layers.
We are testing the validity of our models further by working on other sets of isolated NS, while trying to expand our models to cover accreting NS as well.
Another reason why this discovery is extremely important is that it enables us to directly obtain both the mass and the radius of a NS, previously not possible simultaneously. This allows us to understand the interior structure of the NS and various exotic states of matter

something someone might wanna figure out is; why does someone bother to put a thumbs down on Anton's video? what, exactly, is being accomplished by putting a thumbs down on this video?

Would the asymmetric expulsion of x rays give the pulsar any thrust? Alien starship! Lol

Took a shot everytime he said "unusual". I'm drunk as hell. Seriously man, every video you post have 1204 "unusual" in it. And I love your videos anyway.
By the way, here's a present for you Anton, hoping this will be seen as good criticism:
Synonyms for "unusual
":
curious, extraordinary, funny, odd, out-of-the-way, peculiar, queer, rare, singular, strange, unaccustomed, uncommon, uncustomary, unique, weird.

I wonder if they caught it right in the middle of a polar reversal?

I wonder if this discovery is starting to show the limits of the standard model?? Its starting to become clear that gravity alone cannot account for many of the more detailed observations that the new generation of telescopes is giving us access to.

Hey there Anton how goes it, bro. I honestly wish I had you as a teacher back in school. Would have made things much more interesting. 🚀

Wonderful, as usual. Just as an aside, simply from watching the included animation of Earth's magnetic field, I now understand 'magnetic reconnection' events much better than I had before.

Alright. I've been thinking about going into astrophysics for a while. Watching your videos and seeing so many new and amazing things in our videos, you've inspired me to chase a dream. You're amazing Anton <3

I don’t remember when or how I got exposed to your videos but regardless I’m thankful :)

Classic Anton. Still hasn't mastered the art of volume matching the intro. 😁

Something like an aurora on a neutron star, possibly enjoyed by intelligent creatures only 0.2 mm tall if Robert Forward's imaginative fiction turns out to be good intuition about reality. This is the sort of phenomenon I'd like to have weird dreams about.
