This was one of, if not the best scene in Dead Men Tell No Tales. It not only showed Jack's backstory but it showed more of who he is in the sense of clothing. You think it's just a typical pirate uniform, and then you get to see that it's a tribute from his first crew, the first people that called him 'Captain'. These men didn't have to give their swords, their hats, or any of their clothing, but they did it to say 'thank you' to a kid that saved their lives. And Jack never forgot that and respected those men which is why he never changed his clothes.
