I am a lifelong Hawks fan. Trae has carried us. He has his issues, sure. Who doesn't. I.e. Ja, Melo Ball. Trae needs 2 amazing lob threats/defenders and 2 amazing shooters to reach the ECF again. He definitely would have won if that ref hadn't got in the way of him walking backwards down the court. Mike said DJ is one of the best 2 way guards in the NBA. He was, for 1 season in San Antonio. The Murray trade was a mistake, they couldn't manage the Collins/Trae situation, and the veterans like Rondo and Lou Will who could have helped Trae grow are no longer around. The Hawks reached their ceiling in that ECF run, and there's little choice but to build around him for now. The league is now trending toward bigs who can defend and shoot, the long-range gunner types like Trae still have a place but if you have no lob threat or rim protection there's only so much you can do. There won't be a trade, that's my thought, but the contract extension talks will be tricky. If there's no max, the only question left is if Trae will walk and attach himself to a contender for less money.

Young's stats are inflated because it's ball dominant on a bad team. If he were to go to the Lakers or any team where he isn't the first option, his stats will drop. He'll probably average like 18 points and 7 assists. Not bad, but not superstar either.

Trae has a similar playstyle to harden, okc Westbrook, and lilliard where he holds the ball for 19 seconds of the shotclock, spam pick and rolls, and either pull up from 3, drive and finish, or drive and kick.

Not only does it stop ball movement completely, it doesn't allow their teammates to get it going since them touching the ball depends on Trae young passing it to them which the defense can easily stop.

As a result, his individual numbers sky-rocket way above the rest of the team and while it may work in the regular season, it doesn't do well in the playoffs.

Its been proven time and time again that you can't win championships with that style. Kobe even pointed it out since it's too predictable and easily gets shut down in the playoffs.

Add in the fact that he's undersized and a liability on defense, so he really isn't a well sought-after player.

It really is team building. Luka got 2 of the best lob threats in the league and got to the Finals. People tend to forget that the season before, they didn't even make it to the playoffs. Their situations are kinda similar
