ABOUT ME:
► I grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan and graduated with a Marketing degree from Oakland University in Rochester, MI.
► I moved to Longmont, CO in November 2016 and fell in love with all the beautiful hiking trails that Colorado has to offer. So, the Nash Potatoes Outdoor Show (an outdoor nature VLOG) was born in April 2017. Slowly, but surely my channel began to grow…
► In November 2019, I took a 4-month camping trip in my pop-up camper. This gave me an opportunity to travel, explore, unwind, and create lots of great videos.
► Then, in December 2020, I began recording a series of downhill skiing videos in Colorado. These quickly became popular and my passion for YouTube was sparked once again!
► I actually had so many great memories of my first camping trip that I decided to do another one. So, in April 2021, I converted a 12-foot enclosed trailer into a camper and documented the whole process.
► In June 2021, I finally reached 1,000 subscribers and was able to monetize my channel.
► By August 2022, I was already at 1,600 subscribers and counting!
► The Nash Potatoes Outdoor Show allows me to share all of my experiences with you. Join me on my adventure as I talk about life, laughter, exploration, and creating content for YouTube...enjoy!

BEWARE: My thermometer was NOT calibrated! When I dropped it into boiling water, it only read 200 degrees instead of 212...

I love watching "failure" videos...They show that we are all human and that mistakes people made can be avoided when I give it a try. You may be disappointed, but you taught a lot of people a lot of good information.

No matter what spirit I’m making, if I’m using my 5 gallon, I always get 1 gallon around 85-90% ABV. I’ve been distilling now for four years and I’m still learning the cuts. I use the same thumper that you use and I love it. I also add a little bit of my mash in it.

Thank you, I enjoyed that, nice of you to share your mistakes, less for me to make, hopefully. I've ordered the small Vevor, 3 Gals, should arrive soon. I'll let you know how I get on.

I am gearing up for attempt #1 glad I found this video. Like point on down tube in thumper

love the video. helped me on some points.
i have the same setup.
do as vevor picture shows: your thumper needs to be above your boiler (in height) and so should your condenser.

furthermore. instead of ice. let the bucket overflow with cold water. if else the water heats up in no time.

Unless you're at sea-level, you need to know what elevation you're distilling at and adjust for atmospheric pressure's effect on vapor pressure. The ethanol fraction run that occurs at 78.3°C/172.9°F at sea-level happens at 72.4°C/162.3°F @ 2443-meters/8, 000-feet of elevation above sea level; a difference of over 10-degrees Fahrenheit. If you're at an elevation of 6, 000-feet your thermometer should read 200°F in boiling water, since the lower atmospheric pressure at that elevation lowers the boiling point of pure water by 12°F.

wow a fantastic video, thank you so much. I have been doing fermented foods for 7 years, am a pro at that, such as kombucha, kefirs, sourkrouts, next frontier is booze.

Thank you for the information! I purchased mine and I didn't even get the manual you did so under my wife's baleful glare, I assured her I would find what to do. I'm just using mine for distilling water for medical purposes but I'm sure there could be a time I might need to make some lawnmower fuel or.. bartering material. Have a great day!

Thanks for this video! Excellent explanations, unusual clarity for a complex topic.

Putting a high wattage dial voltage regulator in line your power will help control temp better. It will seek up on set temp instead of having intermittent hard boils. Dial it in after still first reaches cut off temp.

Like your energy and enthusiasm. Your journey will soon be full of memories and enjoyable experiences. I think, via my readings, you turned your thumper to a slop bucket by not allowing incoming steam to be introduced below the thumper's charge liquid level, resulting in increased processing time, less yield, an colored output. Stick a cooper tube in the inlet hole and that should help. Check out Gorges and others explanations on thumpers.

Very informative would love to see a follow up video where you distill again but successfully

Love the cleaning process and that chart of temps that all the fractions become vapour. Thats as far as I got before realizing you are a perfectionist. Love it so far and thanks so much. Ok, Back to your movie.
