went biking with my friend on a new trail.  he was pretty new to biking and at one point just went too fast.  i was going extra slow because the trail was made crappy, it had sand spots, and way too damn hot that day.  north carolin ain the summer is dreadful.  moving back north soon.

anyways as soon as i noticed he was gone, i hard him crash and felt the thud on the ground.  i also heard a pop noise that i thought was his bike hitting a rock.  it was his collarbone exploding.  he now has a metal plate in there and permanent damage that will affect him forever.

the trail had a retarded bump on a little downhill section that completely seemed out of place as it interupted the flow completely.  his head was down as he flew down it so he didn't see it.  horrible designed trail, typical of north carolina.

so another tip is not not fly through a new trail and always look ahead at all times.  scan the whole area so you can anticipate your actions.

to this day i feel bad since i got him motivated to start biking.

I return to MTB 3 months ago and last week I've ride 200 km with 3200m of elevation. You guys have no idea how GNBM videos have helped me to improve that fast. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for putting together these videos! I'm a 38 y/o rider that only started riding 5 years ago. Built myself a hardtail, and about 3 months ago picked up an older 2006 GT i-Drive 5 bike. Have since upgraded it with many parts that you have suggested (shorter stem, good wheels & tires, newer suspension. Probably my biggest issue right now is still trying to get the bike to manual, and to also conquer my fears. Too often I panic when going down a steep section, go on the brakes, and end up in a much worse case than if I just rolled down it.

Wish I would have seen this earlier. I've been riding for a couple years now and you kind of figure these things out the more you ride. That's why I love going out. every time I get smoother and faster.

Went out for a ride this evening on a trail I hadn't been on before. It was a 4.5 mile crushed gravel road around a big lake. Punishing uphill climbs, but breakneck downhills....

..especially when I don't realize that at the bottom a hill I'm barreling down at 28 MPH, the trail makes an abrupt 180 degree turn right beside the lake, and I'm headed straight for the drink. Managed to get the bike stopped before going in, but only just - maybe 6 to 8 feet or so from the water. Scared the dickens out of me!
