In this video, Rick Hillmer covers additional features of the FSO-12 from ABB.

Safe brake control provides a safe output for controlling a mechanical brake, to be used in conjunction with safe torque off. This function ensures that the brake is engaged during the safe-torque-off period.

Safely-limited speed can be set to limit the speed during a safe operation. This will allow setup or jogging even when the corresponding safety device is open. If the motor is running above this safe speed when activated, the drive will reduce the speed along a monitored ramp until it gets to this limited speed. The motor can then run at or below this speed, but cannot go above.

Safe maximum speed monitors the motor at all times and trips in the event of overspeed. When programmed, this maximum speed is always active. When using this function, be sure to set your reference limit just below the maximum speed, as once the motor goes above this speed, the drive applies a safe stop emergency and the motor stops

Prevention of unexpected startup ensures that the machine will not start while personnel are in a hazard area. This is another layer of protection that is used with the safe torque off function.

The Safe stop emergency function can be set up as a category 0 with immediate safe torque off, or as a category 1 with either time or ramp monitoring as we have previously seen.

The Safe stop 1 function is always a category 1 with either time or ramp monitoring.
