NBA Legends Explain How CRAZY GOOD Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Was..

Welcome back to Latest Hoops. Here’s some news for you about Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. In my opinion, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar deserves the title of being the greatest player to ever play the game of basketball for one reason: his implementation and later perfection of the skyhook shot. No other player in the game's history has come close to developing a more lethal and effective shot in crunch-time situations than the Skyhook shot. And no other offensive weapon was more reliable when it was needed the most.

Because Kareem could use the sky hook with equal effectiveness with either his right or his left hand, and from any distance from the basket, it has basically transcended any element of the game of basketball that came after it. Now, top this all off with the fact that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar scored more points (38,387) and had greater longevity in a career that spanned over 21 seasons, which makes it hard to find a better argument. Karl Malone's 36,928 points and Michael Jordan's 32,292 points keep one of those players (Jordan) in the conversation for the all-time best. But Kareem's sky hook was so devastating, that opposing coaches and players had no other choice but to poke him in the eyes to try to stop it. This is when Kareem had to bring out the goggles. So, for you youngsters out there who were born in the '90s and later, contrary to popular belief, it was not Rip Hamilton or A'mare Stoudemaire that were the first to sport something protective over their faces during a game. It was the big fella, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, formerly Lou Alcindor, a collegiate phenomenon at UCLA and the greatest thing to ever come out of New York City since the subway was invented. Critics will argue that it is Shaquille O'Neal's power dunking ability that makes him one of the most dominating players to ever play the center position, and that he is better than Kareem. Of course, Michael Jordan's name will come up in the conversation because he won championships more recently than Kareem did, and also because he had a nickname and marketing campaign that spanned worldwide.

Seriously? Defense has gotten SO MUCH WORSE. And rules have all been geared towards the offense. Kareem would dominate todays NBA. GREATEST OF ALL TIME!

Whether Kareem is the GOAT or not, debatable....but his Skyhook...that is the GOAT of shots, imo. Even down to the name of it.

He’s the goat by a wide margin. Only people that understand basketball can see it.

Hook shots are the hardest shot to block.. It’s for the most part unblock-able. I’d give taller players then me fits because even though they were taller and right up on me, I’d pull off that hook shot and sink it. I had moments where people on the opposing side would look at me like I was an alien when I would pull off my hook shot.

Kareem was by far the complete package

Good defense, incredible offense, decent passing skills, great height.

“But he can’t shoot threes” neither did anyone in his era, except for a select few and only Larry Bird was the only consistent and well-known 3 point shooter in that era.

Wilt is the goat the record book speaks for itself he played 8 fewer years than Kareem and in his last 6 or 7 years was told not to shoot too many but yet he still has many records no one comes close . Smart people who know the history of basketball and saw a prime Wilt play know the truth but people beleive what they want so who cares. The goat argument is pointless their have been many great players and they all deserve recognition.

Criteria for GOAT ;
MUST be in the conversation of greatest high school player ever
MUST be in the conversation greatest college player ever
MUST be in the conversation of greatest professional player ever
MUST have won titles on all three levels
MUST be stellar on both sides of the ball
MUST have won at least five league MVP awards
This equates to only one player.. KAREEM ABDUL JABBAR!

What if Kareem played in today's NBA? People conveniently forget that if you change one variable, such as, in this case, putting a player from a different era to another, then you cannot expect other variables to stay the same. So if you put a Kareem in today's NBA, then it should follow that he'll also have the same level of nutrition, conditioning, and skill that others also possess. So basically, you are upgrading an already dominant player in a league where defense has slackened off considerably. A KAJ shooting 3s isn't going to be far-fetched, for starters.

My top 5 not in order are Kareem, Wilt, Michael, LeBron and Larry.

Quality of defense nowadays...hahah;) Tell that to bad boys of Isiah Thomas in the 80s. I have not seen a defense similar to what the average80s-90s team could do in the last 20 years.Especially in the last 10.

6:35 you only need to look at the Denver nuggets to find somebody playing like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in today's NBA.
Nikola jokic is playing the way that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar would be playing, if he were in today's league.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar did what was asked of him. He was an innovative and highly intelligent man. He actively worked on his agility and dexterity. And he is underrated as a passer.
I don't think he's getting any triple-doubles, but he would definitely get way more assists in today's league.
But considering how easy it is for guys like Joel embiid and Nikola jokic to dominate, it would be insane to think that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar couldn't.

Kareem is the GOAT of his era and maybe all time! I have MJ as 1 just inching out Kareem for the GOAT status, Kareem as 2 and Lebron as 3. But I always would have Kareem in the GOAT conversation and think its more of a tie between him and MJ to be honest.

Not exactly sure but the time difference from his first and last championship might be a record never beat in the four major sports
