How To Refill Your McCormick Throwaway Salt Or Pepper Grinder!

Being a fisherman i enjoy using my Sea Salt & Peppercorn grinders for cooking fish. Of course i only use McCormick as i grew-up on that brand. But also i used to throw the bottle away when it was empty. That really seemed wasteful. So out of frustration i tried to yank the top off, and it popped off!

I tried this on my McCormick Peppercorn grinder and was pleased to see the bottles were the same. So i bought my favorite sea salt crystals Hawaiian Sea Salt to refill my former throwaway bottle. So this will save you MONEY. You no longer have to throw away the empty McCormick bottles anymore. Just wanted to share this. Thanks:)

(Most of the women say they can do this now. If you coat the outer edge with cooking oil before snapping the top back on it'll be much easier to repeat this again).

I didn't know you couldn't refill these, so I bought a container of McCormick Sea Salt REFILL from the grocery store. Then realized that the grinders couldn't be refilled... even though the bottle said it was to refill the grinders!! What in the world???? SOOOO, I figured that someone on YouTube HAD to know how to do this! And here you are...my hero! I don't have a man around that can help, but maybe if I heat it up it might be easier to get apart. Sure going to give it a try! Thank you!!!! You are my HERO sir!!!

I was pretty determined to get this off without any aid from my husband. After 3 tries I was able to pull it off without hot water! Thanks for the tip now I can buy salt in bulk!

As mentioned a few comments below, adding a modest amount of heat to the plastic grinding mechanism using a blow dryer helps. I couldn't pull mine apart until I added heat and then they separated without too much force.

You sir...are a gentleman and a Heller grip strength I had to use a flathead screwdriver to pry each side but it still worked and did barely and damage to it....Thank you

Scuba Chris! Thank you. I needed the top off because I needed the peppercorns for pickled vegetables. Brut force. It worked. I didn't think I could do it. Peppercorns all over the floor, but it worked!

Well Sir -- I think I need arms like yours !! I tried and tried and TRIED to do this - but, I could not :-(

I found a solution that helped however - if you place the unit (cap side down) into really hot (almost boiling) water for a minute (or so) - THEN, I can do what you did !! Infact, the top came off really easy ...

Your method is preferred -- wish I could have done that !!
