How Money Changed Me (In My 20s)

This is a story of how money in my 20s changed me

How to save money, how to invest your money in your 20s, how to save money, how to invest in stocks, investing for beginners, how to build wealth, best stock trading apps, what is a 401k, are all phrases and question's we should google search at some point in our lives - the earlier the better.

But in order to get to that moment of "awakening", we have to experience money and materialism in a way that changes our mindset to start thinking about money differently. Of course, the earlier we have our moment of realization, the better. When this happens, your relationship with time and money completely changes. It's a mindset that pays literal dividends.

This is exactly when investing changed for me and my roommate. I got to experience the ultimate luxury of what money could buy me. This experience is defined differently for each person.

For my roommate for example, it took him having a six figure job, living in Hawaii and driving luxury cars to realize that money was not what brought him happiness. For me, I realized my dream of living in a million dollar high-rise that I promised myself I'd live in. We achieved our financial dreams early on but we both came to realize those financial goals were not worth chasing.

That prompts the questions. What is money for? What are you supposed to do with it? That's when money changed me, I discovered what it really meant and how to use it. How to set proper goals that would inspire me, motivate me, to do what makes me truly happy - the road to financial independence and true freedom. This is that story. This is a story of how money in my 20s changed me

What did it take for you to have your moment of realization about money? Was it something you bought? Was it the perfect job you realize didn't make you happy? I really believe you need to have this moment before investing starts to make any sense

Money can't buy happiness, but being broke can't either. Keep the grind up Andrei, you inspired me to make a YouTube channel of my own and slowly I'm making it up to the point where you are!

For anyone who's interested:

For me it was when I walked into work one day early in the morning and saw an old dude in one of the cubicles who hadn't left from the day earlier. I walked up and talked to him and he said that his wife was in the hospital but he still had to come to work because if he would be laid off he wouldn't have the resources for her treatment.

That day changed how I looked at money. I was determined not to end up like this man. The passion to provide for your family without having to sacrifice your soul is what drives me and shapes my views about money.

it's not about the money it's about the way I want to live my life.

While pursuing my PhD, I never had money. I also had a lovable dog companion that had been with me for years. All throughout graduate school I felt an incredible sense of guilt and shame because I never lived in houses that gave my dog freedom to roam. When he was sick, I could only afford to mitigate symptoms and not treat root causes. My schooling required me to be away from him for a long time some days. He just recently passed away because, although I am now out of that financial opportunity hole and building my wealth, I am still not in a place where I could afford the appropriate treatment for him. It is an odd thing but, for me, building wealth is so that I never feel guilt again for not being able to provide for those that depend upon me, and to also not be consumed by the pursuit that even if I have the financial wealth, I no longer have the time for them. Money provides and security and the time to spend and care for those closest to me--human and animal alike.

Money can't buy happiness. Having enough money to be financially independent and avoiding financial stress is important though - studies have actually shown that financial stress can temporarily lower IQ. Not good.
In terms of happiness, some prefer to view it using the lens of excitement = happy, and boredom = sadness. This is generally more practical, as doing things that you enjoy and are aligned with some sort of purpose leads to a greater level of fulfilment (or 'happiness').

There’s always so much hate for college. It doesn’t have to be that way. You can enjoy it.

Powerful Andrei! More people need to take life for what it is and focus on the process of finding happiness. Much enjoyed this!

For me the lack of money was an amazing life lesson. My family went through bankruptcy back in 2010 when i was 11 years old, my dad lost his business, and we were forced to move in a literal rat hole where we didn't eat some days and we suffered from depression to extreme illness.

Well 10 years later i look back on that, we're past that point now, where i see that it was a blessing in disguise. Cause going through my teen years with no money or real friends made me look at things from a different lens then most other teens. I see all their random spending and directionless living as a giant waste of potential cause you could loose all of it in no time.
So now i'm almost 21 and am the only one among anyone i know my age that has and real plan for my finances, or even savings account to invest from for that matter, while they literally blow hundreds of dollar on random dates and sports game they themselves don't want to go to just to get a random girl for a night.
My big reason is to NEVER go back to that nothing we had, and to NEVER have to stress so much over basic living but to have enough to focus on doing good and giving to those who don't have enough.
Another big reason is my parents, they are getting older and cause of bankruptcy don't have any retirement savings or plan. I want to be able to both educate them on how to invest even at that old age so they can retire and not work their whole lives, and if need be take care of them in their worsening health.
P.S. Thanks for all the great information and videos man, i'm a learn by doing kind of guy so i am really scared to start doing something risky like investing but your videos make it much easier to understand so i can get a good start.
