The DL385p supports both HDDs and SSDs. HDDs are available in SATA and SAS formats, while SSDs come in SATA and SAS, with no support for NVMe drives. Regarding drive speeds, SATA HDDs operate at 7.2K RPM, while SAS HDDs can run at 7.2K, 10K, or 15K RPM. It's important to note that SAS drives with speeds above 7.2K RPM may experience wear on their ball bearings over time, so keeping a spare drive on hand is recommended. For SSDs, SATA drives offer speeds of 6 Gb/s, and SAS drives provide speeds of 12 Gb/s.

The size of the drives depends on the chassis. The DL385p can accommodate Large Form Factor (LFF) drives, which are 3.5 inches, and Small Form Factor (SFF) drives, which are 2.5 inches. For SFF drives, the maximum size for a SATA HDD is 2TB, and for a SAS HDD, it is 2.4TB. The maximum size for SATA SSDs in an SFF chassis is 7.68TB, while for a SAS SSD in an SFF chassis, it is 15.3TB. In an LFF chassis, the maximum size for both SATA and SAS HDDs is 20TB.
