Those 60’s roars are insane, the fact that they used that sound in 2019 made me feel like a kid again...

It's interesting when you realize that of all the various roars of creatures in movies, Godzilla is probably the only one that one can instantly recognize. So kudos to whoever thought of it.

I just love that Legendary's 2019 roar is fused with the 2014 and the OG roars.

1968 and 1969 are the roars I most identify with Godzilla.

The 1954 roar is different from the rest, it isnt a roar that conveys respect like legendary goji or a roar that conveys aw and terror like heisei or hatred like millenium.

Its a roar that is the entire suffering that nuclear warfare causes, all the pain and loss ( abet not truly all of it) japan went through, it is an otherwordly cry of pain and despair from a creature suffering every moment of its existence, all caused by three words, hiroshima and nagasaki.

The best roar in my opinion is this one, not because it sounds good but because its the truest and closest to godzilla has ever gotten to its roots.

Edit: before anyone says it, I know it was hydrogen bomb testing that woke up and scared the 1954 godzilla. But we can all agree Hiroshima and Nagasaki were a big part of the movies impact.

While Godzilla 1998 wasn't really much like 'Godzilla' and got negative reception (even being called Zilla by Toho), I will say that:
- It had a great roar.
- If it hadn't been under the name and expectations of Godzilla, it would've been a good film as a different monster.
- 'Godzilla: The Series', the sequel animated series, was much more faithful to the original Godzilla and overall much better.

*3:29** I like that roar. With a windy effect, it feels like the most realistic godzilla's roar ever existed*

The Godzilla roar is the type of sound I need to hear to remember properly.

Showa: The one that started it all and really the point where all Godzilla roars are measured. I admit that not all of them sound great, but all of them are iconic and easily recognizable.
Heisei: This was a nice evolution of Godzilla's roar, but in a subtle way. They louder roars were more or less the same, but what I liked a lot from this era was the deeper, almost growl-like roars we got too. It really reflected this darker period of the king of the monsters
1998: Say what you will about the creature, but at least they got the roar right while also putting a slightly nuanced spin on it
Millennium: Now THIS felt like the real first fresh take on the roar while being faithful to it. It was longer, deeper, and more intense than it ever has been before. Millennium Godzilla's roar was more than just a sound. It resonated with power and you could practically feel it. THIS roar to me really puts the "GOD" in Godzilla, because when Millennium Godzilla speaks, EVERYONE hears and feels it!
Shin: Not gonna beat around the bush here, the roars were all reused from previous Godzillas, but the way they were implemented in the story as the monster grew and evolved were very well conceived. The first time we hear him roar, his third form, was reused from his 1954 incarnation, which is very fitting. And as he moves through the phases, his roar moves along, having Showa's in his fourth form, and we hear Heisei's roar right at the end of the movie as Godzilla was about to move into his fifth phase. So we can surmise that had he gone past this and into a 6th phase, he would have had Millennium's roar.
Legendary: Just like Millennium, this is where the roar was very noticeably different. And just like Millennium, it was a well done adaptation and evolution of the roar, and even seemed to take inspiration from all the eras of Godzilla.

In all, this is a roar that just about anyone, not just Godzilla fans, will recognize. It is just so iconic that to change it would almost be like changing the very character of Godzilla. Many things will change, but some will always stay the same.

I love that they used the original 54 roar for Minus One. That was always my favorite one. Love the 55 one too, although that one comes from the original Gojira as well.

The change of the pitch and length of the roar between the Heiden and Showa era is remarkable
