Get the film look with free Magic Lantern firmware

Magic Lantern is a free software add on for your Canon DSLR that effectively upgrades its features to help you capture better footage. This tutorial goes over the Magic Lantern installation, some tips on getting started with the extra features for filmmaking, and some safety tips to make sure it doesn't damage your camera.

Something I forgot to mention: Magic Lantern has not been updated for the latest firmware on the Canon 5D Mark III. The latest firmware Magic Lantern supports is 1.2.3. You can downgrade using the Eos Utility app.

Updated 600D firmware to 1.0.3 only to realise I had to downgrade back to 1.0.2 - apart from that though, I found the video to be extremely helpful! Thanks bro!!

This tutorial was a lifesaver and seriously eased my anxiety 😅 I was able to successfully update my firmware first, then correctly install on the SD card (after running out to buy a card reader) and then ultimately installing ML on my T5i 🏆 Thank you so much Jake for making it flow so easily. The directions on ML website were not detailed enough for me to feel confident to do the install. Cheers!

For now I'm gonna stick to what my SL2 is natively capable of, magic Lantern seems pretty tempting but I don't want take the risk of permanent damage. When I get my Sidekick camera I'll reconsider installing it

Thanks for your informative video but I just like to advise you to put an update bubble text over your video when you say "update to latest firmware" to "Make sure your firmware version is the one supported by magic lantern". As some Magic Lantern versions will not work with latest Canon firmware. I just installed mine on 650D and look forward to learning the new features. Thanks. (I note you did put an update in your description...but adding a text overlay would be cool as most viewers tend not to read descriptions on youtube)

ALERT! WARNING! Format the SD card to remove magic lantern. I repeat, format...don't delete, magic lantern! I simply deleted ML and. My T3i would not turn on. To summarize, format the SD card to remove ML. ML works fine on T3i but you must format SD card to remove ML. That is all.

magic lantern is amazing.... but unfortunately like the list you showed says. 70d is still in progress :( i uploaded the version they have for it but it was so incredibly unstable i had to delete it. it bricked my 70d for an hour. black screen and wouldnt do anything. then magically it turned on and i was able to get it off. hopefully they get the in progress versions up to date sooner than later because it adds so many features. it really helps.

I just upgraded from 2.0.2 to 2.0.3 on my EOS M because you told me to and then found out that the latest Magic Lantern version for EOS M only runs on 2.0.2 and now I'm on a wild goosehunt trying to figure out how to downgrade firmware. He should have mentioned that you should check what firmware ML runs on for your camera before you update. Anyone know how to downgrade firmware on an EOS M? Cant find any downloads for the earlier firmware.
