The PERFECT Layover: Munich, Germany (What to do in the city between flights)

Beer, bratwurst, and bretzel - what more of a reason do you need to leave the Munich airport for a short jaunt into the city between flights?

Whether you're a reluctant traveler who is hesitant to leave the airport during a connection, or a foolhardy traveler like me who consistently pushes the limits of time to the edge by cutting it too close, rest assured, a trip into Munich is simple, straightforward, and highly rewarding. Just take the S-Bahn to Marienplatz and dive right into the best of Bavarian culture.

I landed at about 8:00 AM and immediately headed into the heart of old town, visiting Marienplatz, the Old and New Town Hall, the beautiful Frauenkirche, the imposing Residenz, and even found time for an extended lunch at the world-famous Hofbräuhaus (highly recommended). And after all was said and done, I made it back to the airport with enough time to pick up a few German groceries before heading to the gate to board my onward flight to Vancouver later that afternoon.

This video was extremely helpful in understanding how much time is needed with a layover in Munich! I am flying to Finland from the USA with a long layover in Munich both on the way there and back and am trying to decide which leg of the trip will be easiest for visiting Munich. Based on the previous comments, do I have this correct?:
Leaving: Exiting MUC airport from USA during long layover we clear customs. Returning to MUC for flight to Finland we go straight to gate and also do not have to clear customs in Finland.
Returning: Exiting MUC airport from Finland we do not clear customs, but upon returning to MUC for flight to USA we clear customs before heading to gate and then once again in USA.

I have a short layover starting at 2:30 PM (really not a layover but can kill some time) as I’m flying into Munich and then taking a train to Salzburg. Will probably grab a beer or two at the H-House and then eat somewhere else more local nearby since I hear the H-House is a tourist trap when it comes to the food there. Was the food even good there?

Nice video bro! 1 important question: I have a 12 hour layover in Munich. I’m planning on doing this as well. How was the process getting back to your gate? Did you have to pass through customs again? Did they make a big deal about it? I’m an American so I don’t need a visa
