LG G8X ThinQ: Is a Dual-Screen BETTER than a Foldable?

There is an interesting craze in the market by OEMS to deliver us more screen in a smaller form factor. Companies claim that this is what consumers want, and we‘ve got manufacturers like Huawei and Samsung investing heavily on foldables, but which we’re still waiting for. LG on the other hand has a different approach. Back at MWC we saw how they instead delivered the dual display. A case that you use only when you need to, or you snap off when you want a regular phone. It was only limited to Korea but it seems people liked it because now we have version 2. I had a chance to play with the LG G8X and this is our first impression

I like LG for trying to do something different than other smartphone manufacturers.

You should try some ds emulation for the review seems like this would be the perfect phone for that.

I think having 2 displays is more practical as there is less moving parts and also if anything goes wrong you can get a replacement, whereas a whole folding product, the whole thing would have to be fixed and could be more costly

If apple or samsung had this, reviewers would be shouting praises to them.
And just like 18/9 +, thin bezels, dual and triple from and rear cameras, they will soon and refine it and get all of the credit.
Nice to see it still has the quad dac headphone amp/dac, sd card and hardware mqa decoding.
And better cameras sensors and stabilization, just no tele.

This is what the foldable phones should have been from the get go.

It is a great idea, an option of having another screen when needed. Not all fancy having both screens at once. Reliability issues.

Love the dac and jack. As long as LG keeps putting them in phones I'll be buying LG phones. However I wish they just made a Note rival with a headphone jack.

I just bought this LG phone coming from the s8.. I always wait for the right deal to get come out before I upgrade.. I have never purchased anything besides Samsung galaxy phones and was looking to upgrade to the note 10..it was a sprint representative that told me about this Lg phone and ultimately convinced me to jump the Samsung bandwagon... I will tell you, this Lg g8x is a much better phone. I am really enjoying it. The only thing I don't like so far is the market is slim on accessories like cases and screen protectors. I highly recommend the jump though. You will be amazed at the performance, zero lag, beautiful camera, the selfie picture is awesome. I am waiting on my dual screen to arrive in the mail, which was free with the purchase. But even without it I recommend it.

I love it! Double the resolution and double the screen size (so things don't look so micro). Very ideal for someone needing to using remote desktop or team viewer on their phone! Also, very useful for typing out an e-mail by having a larger keyboard.

Yes, I luv the concept of 2 screens for 1 smartphone. Mainly for multi-tasking such as:
-listening (not actually"watching") a YouTube video with screen 1, while web surfing (or any other task) with screen 2
-playing a game on 1, and any other task on 2, when presented with ads to "pay" for game items, or slow transitions in the game
-dramatically easier relay or retyping of info from one browser tab to another, because i can just move my eyes from screen to screen, instead of the slower tab-to-tab switching, which is inherently slower, and can even be further delayed by page re-formating or re-centering each time a tab is activated, depending on the OS and browser type.

There's so many more examples of annoying delays associated with multi-tasking, but also just normal tasks that require switching between apps, to transfer information, which is a growing time user in life, as we become the "quarterback" of data to get stuff done.
