WORST Way To Lift For Muscle Growth ❌

preview_player
Показать описание
If you want to build muscle as effectively as possible, intentionally creating instability with your muscle building exercises is the worst thing you can do. This does not improve muscle growth - it just reduces your ability to generate maximum force against the weight and inhibits mechanical tension. The best bodybuilding exercises are generally the most stable ones. Not only from a physical standpoint but also a mental one so you can place 100% focus on training close to muscular failure without worrying about the balance component. Bosu ball or swiss ball exercises might look novel and interesting, but they will not help you stimulate hypertrophy and gain muscle optimally.

I personally like saying "im not going to work out today" before going into the gym, that way i can surprise my muscles and shock them into growing

This video pops up when I was watching Dr. Mike talk about his debate with Joel Seedman and he just finished the sentence: "unstable training is close to worthless". Great content, love these shortshorts :)

I use stability ball training and unstable training because i do parkour and jump on and off of rails quite a lot. I have found that doing stability training is a great addition for my strength and conditioning. Unless ppl were doing athletic sports that require a lot of stability, i can see how it’s unnecessary for most ppl.

Maybe I want decreased stability, decreased potential to make gains, and increased risk of injury! Ever think about that, Sean!

Sean is singlehandedly scrubbing down all the garbage that "gym influencers" have put out the last few years. Thank you for your contribution to society.

Studies found these could help return from ankle injuries, and the fitness industry RAN with it.

I absolutely agree with what you said but I think mostly athletes do these kind of exercises with lighter weight to build more core stability and strength. I could be wrong though
Eg:- Basketball players

I gotta say tho, they are great when working through an injury like shoulder instability or rotator cuff issues etc. Since they require you to stabilize your body. They are also great when you need a nice stretch :D

The intro was very smooth and well delivered. Nice one Sean

unstable training is only useful when it's sport-specific, and its aim is to improve sports performance, not strength. The weird shit that Ronaldo does, for example

what about ring dips on gymnastics rings vs regular dips on a dip bar? wouldn’t the instability be beneficial then?

The idea of squatting *on a ball* strikes me as so dangerous!

As a Physical Therapist Assistant I utilize stability equipment quite frequently in therapy to help rebuild my patients.
For those wanting more knowledge, theres a basic ladder (and a few different approaches) of how to develop movement and strength, predominantly PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) and Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT).
Both tend to utilize a progression of:
Mobility, Stability, Controlled Mobility, and Skilled movements.
Stability and Controlled Mobility are very key parts of healing an injury due to the necessity of being able to have smooth recruitment of agonist and antagonistic muscles to safely control the joints and muscles.
Stability equipment is vital to ensuring that many of your joint stabilizing muscles are able to control the demands of higher movements that you will be having.
Even at higher levels in this video it is not useless for achieving their goal of increasing control and safety of your skilled movements, your hypertrophy lift gains are not comparable in this scenario.

I believe some athletes do this for core strength and balance, muscle stabilization with the receptors being activated. You’re right tho. But not everyone is simply just trying to build muscle

Saw a guy doing a heavy dumbbell bench press on a ball on a fail video. Not going to lie: seeing that ball pop made my day.
