Ants: A well-ordered society under your feet..

There is a world beneath our feet that is often ignored in our day to day lives. One such world was exposed when we tried gardening a small patch of soil. It revealed a network of tunnels built by ants and our gardening endangered their survival. The ants responded immediately and got to work in a manner that suggested every ant knew exactly what it was supposed to do in such an event. The ants split up into groups and simultaneously took over tasks such as: relocating the eggs, larvae & pupae to a new safe place, rebuilding the tunnels, guarding the open ends of the tunnel, surveying the damage and disposing of the dead.
