How Paimon LEAKED Her Own Identity | Genshin Impact Theory

In this Genshin Impact Theory video, I will attempt to speculate on who Paimon really is. Is she the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles? The God of Time? A Seelie? Interestingly, we've already got a lot of clues in regards to finally explaining who Paimon is, because Paimon LEAKED her own identity without any of us realizing it.

This is the first video of my five part Genshin Impact Theory series. Throughout these videos, I will speculate on the entire story of Genshin Impact. But before we discuss everything about the game, we need to first try and identity who Paimon actually is. Is it possible that Paimon actually leaked her own identity throughout the game and we just didnt know about it? And what is the meaning of the False Sky that Scaramouche mentioned?

What are the secrets hidden behind the world of Genshin Impact and the existence of the traveler?
Hopefully this is a good starting to point to finally uncover the entire story of Genshin Impact.

I love how the more we uncover the genshin lore, the more insane we get just like the Sumeru scholars 💀💀💀

When we meet Rosalia, she says "Someone who can disappear and float to run away, you are very suspecius, and would be hard to catch" something along this lines, what means in the game they know that she disappears and reappears...

An extra thought. The shop is literally called paimon's bargains. She sells wishes, her hair ornament is a wish star/primogem, her particles are constellations. She has a connection with summoning items and beings into the world

She also loves to name things!!! I think thats a major give a way because, if you are an inventor or a creator you will always name things you created, right? She really seems like a primordial one. 🥳🤗👍

The weird thing is even on sumeru, the land that full of researcher, there's no one that moderately curious about paimon.

It’s also extremely weird too how there have been a few moments throughout the game where someone literally asks Paimon what she is, and instead of any reaction or response to the question, the conversation moves onto the next person, as if that question was never asked. It feels unnatural, forced, and it makes me wonder if there’s something that forces us to ignore or move past our curiosity about Paimon.

One thing I found interesting is the constant running joke about paimon being “emergency food” when it comes to mythology around planes I came across this “Phanes was also said to be a dying and resurrecting god, killed by the Titans who devoured his flesh but rescued by Athena and resurrected by Zeus.” Super hardcore

I always joked that Paimon is actually the strongest character in the game. I always thought she was in the water for a reason and her being knocked out. Also caused her to forget her memory and her own power. I have this feeling that there will be a cutscene where the Traveler gets in a critical condition and is near death. Paimon might get angry at this and use some of her power against the enemy. I doubt she will betray us. (Note I haven't even seen the video yet. So this is me before watching the video)

something I've been thinking about is when nahida takes us to see rukkhadevata's last memory, and we see how corrupted it is. Nahida says it shouldn't be a problem for paimon, my first thought was that it was a jab at her being emptyheaded, but it didn't seem right because nahida isn't really the type to backhand like that, then I thought, considering she has access to literally all known history, maybe she just *knew* something.

Something that stuck out to me about Paimon was a dialogue from the aranyaka quest:
Arama: "From sunrise to sunset, I gained centuries worth of memories, and that's why Paimon thinks I've changed a lot. But there's no need to worry."
Paimon: "That's so convenient! If only people could gain knowledge like that... Huh, why does that sound familiar to Paimon?"

Paimon is definitely an Archon or another kind of divine being. All current Archons go by many names but one of them are always from the Ars Goetia (a real book, known as The Book of Demons). Barbatos (Venti), Morax (Zhongli), Baal (Raiden), Buer (Nahida) and Focalor (Hydro Archon), are all names from the demons of the Ars Goetia. Her design is very reminiscent of Dainsleaf and the Abyss Order as well. I can safely assume she’s from Khaenri’ah. Possibly their forgotten/erased Archon. Makes sense as they claim they have no God and Paimon can’t recall her memories.

She’s definitely a much bigger piece in the story than she seems. She doesn’t have that name by chance.

One thing that really stood out to me was when we first met the sentient mushroom deep in the chasm. At one point in the dialog, the mushroom, sensing Paimon's presence, described her as a "two-legged hatchling".

I think it stood out to me for two main reasons: First, Paimon is rarely remarked on in any substantial way. Secondly, of all manner's of coming into the world, why specifically "hatched"? It's neither how mushrooms (fungi) or people (mammals) are born, which would both have more familar ways of referencing. Perhaps it's because Paimon floats/flys like an insect or bird, but it certainly fits with the Primordial one being "birthed from an egg".

I think this should help end the debate on which twin is the canon MC.

Paimon IS the MC.

Teyvat being a prison at least explains why the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles wouldn't let the travelers leave. Also I like Albedo because he was the first character to actually question Paimon's existence and try to find out what she is, and what she's capable of (blasting 10 feet through stone, making waterfalls flow backwards). I believe this whole "Teyvat is a prison" thing also fits well with the Fatui's goal. They are collecting all the Gnosis' for some reason, and what I think that reason is is to escape Teyvat, or essentially "break" the jail. Destroy the gods that put them there. The Gnosis are like a super battery of divine power, so gathering all the gnosis' would possibly make you strong enough to beat these figures that represent the constraints of mankind. The Fatui aren't evil. Their methods are definitely evil, but their end goal is not (why I think all the fatui we talk to seem to believe they are protecting everyone).

Another tidbit that stuck with me was Paimon's investment in the dead adventurer's story ("Thus was the Work Done in Vain") from last year's Golden Apple Archipelago event. Throughout the quest line, even Paimon recognized that, logically, they can't change what happened to Wolfgang, and yet she begged the traveler to try anyway. The writer in me looks at this and recognizes either, a character who has lived through/seen the same pattern and has an unconscious need to take action where they couldn't in a past event, OR a character who has the subconscious muscle memory of being able to do something about it, in this case, changing fate.
Paimon's almost hyper-fixation on helping Wolfgang almost feels like a child's inability to fully grasp the concept of death, and if we were to go way out on a limb and superimpose Nahida's current state as a child god coming about through expending her power and physically regressing because of it, suddenly Paimon's childish tendencies make more sense through this theory crack lens as well...
I don't know, I just think about it sometimes. Mihoyo is known to hide big lore in small crevices during one time events and this was very in depth for essentially a side quest.

I have another one, what if Paimon actually wanted to stop us from meeting our sibling so we could stop traveling to different universes? It makes sense also because she stops us from going to certain places, spawning random events to slow us down and also another fact: no one seems to know about primos In tevyat but…paimon’s blue hair clip is shaped like one so it proves that she’s the primordial one

to me it's pretty crystal clear that what happened to Paimon is exactly what happened to Guoba. Giving up their power and falling into a deep slumber until one day they are found by a random person. Xiangling in Guoba's case and the Traveller in Paimon's case.

We have never been told what Paimon was doing before she got fished up by the traveller, and that probably is because she was asleep and had lost the better part of her memory. Same for Guoba, he doesn't remember a lot of stuff but he wasn't a newborn either. To me they are pretty obvios parallels

Paimon could also be a fragment of Phanes's consciousness, since the Demiurge also loves humans dearly. Paimon is the P.O.'s goodwill and love for humans personified, even though they might be sealed away. This is the same thing that happened with Azhdaha, sealed and eroded but the consciousness divided itself in order to perform one last act of goodwill for Liyue, which is to lead Morax and the Traveller to help establish the barrier again to keep Azhdaha from destroying Liyue. And Teyvat is basically getting destroyed recently so since PO created this world he probably can feel what's going on and coincidentally appeared before the Traveler to use them as catalyst to save Teyvat.

Edit: And once Teyvat is saved and the purpose is fulfilled, Paimon will disappear.

That's a wild theory, but not a baseless one. But what I honestly find most baffling is how everyone in the game seems to acknowledge that Paimon is kind of out of place, but simply shruggs it off. We hear a lot of people refer to her as a mascot or some sort of toy robot. But as soon as they learn that she is in fact not that, but a genuine living creature, they're just like... "Oh well, guess I was wrong. 🤷‍♂", and move on with whatever they were doing!
