What are Cluster Munitions?

A cluster munition is a conventional munition that is designed to release multiple explosive submunitions (in some cases called ‘bomblets’) over a large area. The general definition describes both the container (also in certain circumstances called a dispenser, ‘parent munition’ or carrier) and the submunitions it holds. The number of explosive submunitions varies from as few as ten to up to many hundreds. The size of the individual submunitions may vary considerably. They can be dispersed or released from aircraft, rockets, artillery projectiles, and mortar rounds.

1 thing I dont know is why the use of it i#is totaly forbiden (I mean if there is a country (russia) that dont have sign it, why aren´t we alowed to use cluster amunition on a regulated level (only on military bases/Airports in military use for example) they will use it and it is super effective against things like that... the countrys who have sign it showed they are willing to reduce and in the end forbide it but just like other things its not posible to secure the world (UN) if we are regulating us and loosing the ability to defend us).

What a joke. Cluster bombs are a vital aspect of modern wars. No one deploy soldiers in the field without bomber the entire area with cluster bombs.
