Sponge was GLITCHY so it didn't absorb water and I normally play this version of Minecraft. Well... what seems to be a few snapshots later because there are commands and I play Bedrock Edition which might explain the absence of ender pearls and eyes of ender, but also the inclusion of strays and end portal frames.
