Hey everyone, here's a video putting the 13" M2 MacBook Pro through some programming benchmarks to test how it compares to the M2 MacBook Air for programming.
Hint: it's not THAT much better ;)

Hope you enjoy it, and thank you for watching!

PS: Please let me know if you have any suggestions regarding what I can improve to make these videos more enjoyable for you, but also more useful in terms of the information I relay.

Short comment from someone working in a big IT Software department: Its absolutely worth switching. Not only are the M1/M2 chips extremely fast, they are basically absolutely silent and with extreme battery range, even on heavy work. Best thing is that all also applies to the cheapest entry models. We got some colleagues here who bought the Macbook Air when the Pros were not available yet, with the idea to switch to a more capable model later. They kept they small fanless 800$ Air because it had more power than even our 3000€ laptops here ^^

This has put me in a really confusing spot, the M2 Macbook Pro vs M2 Macbook Air. The issue is, the second I spec both of them up to 512 gb and 16 gb of ram, they start getting a little too close to the 14 inch macbook pro, and they both have their pros and cons for me. I'm not sure if the $200 extra where I am is worth it for the M2 Macbook pro, and mostly I only care for the battery and slightly better performance, though the performance isn't as important and it's more about the laptop not getting uncomfortably hot (Perhaps the touch bar too, which I don't dislike at all, at least from my very limited testing!). And although I'm not really considering the 14" macbook pro since it's much less portable and I just only need reasonable performance as I won't necessarily use it as my main computer, the fact that it's only $300 more than the M2 Macbook pro throws a wrench in the equation. I'm not sure how you're supposed to help me, but any suggestion would be much appreciated!

I plan on getting the same MacBook as you have for programming. How much storage do you suggest?

That means, for programming purposes, M2 Air is better than M2 pro?

I'm a computer science student and I can't decide which macbook I should get. Should I get the m2 air or the m2 pro? I work with visual studio, some video and photo editing and a light web development. Should I get the pro for the fan or is the air the best option and the fan doesn't matter that much?

When I'm doing web development (fullstack javascript) on windows I'm frequently using over 25gb of RAM. I've heard macOS and the new apple silicon chips use WAY less RAM but it still feels like going with 8 or even 16gb isn't future-proof.
Still I'd like to get a 13-14 incher because of the form factor. I'm not finding any macbooks that have 32gb RAM and are small. Does this configuration not exist? Will 16gb be enough or do I need the same 32gigs I'm using on windows?
